Never read much about rome did you? I know prior to the birth of christ you might not want to read anything but there is alot of information that opens your mind when you do. Like.. you know... Free will?

The Roman Republic existed before Christanity, he was just giving an example.

Homosexuality was widely practiced during those times...

Right. Weren't the Greeks from back them supposedly all into it? Namely around the Spartans and such time periods?

Alexander the Great was said to have had boyfriend as well as a woman

The society of Sparta is very fasinating, in the sense its the earliest reference of a communistic country.. Basically every person is body and sole for their polis, Sparta. Their goals, their memories, their actions, are all for Sparta.. Men basically at birth are groomed to be spartan warriors.. The child isn't the mother's its Sparta's.. Basically they trained till around 20.. Which their final test was to sneak into the city and kill a slave with out being caught..

Basically they had groups of some 20 men in each unit for 15 straight years.. No women.. Homosexuality was expected and used to strengthen the loyalty of the army from one another to fight that much harder for ones they loved next to them.. At age 30 they were not on call for the army inless dire circumstances.. They were givne land, were finally able to marry, and were put in a conuncil of men to vote.. Everything was for Sparta.. Alot of historians actually believe homosexuality depicted in the bible is not the homosexuality the authors intended.. That they were narrowing it down to go against men and boy relationships.. Who knows though.

Yea, that's more or less what I read also. To strengthen the bond between the soldiers and keep morale up, and more. Right?

Christianity didn't invent marriage, but God did. And God said that it is between a man and a woman. But now, through the works of satan, it has been perverted into other things. Next thing you know we will be able to marry animals, children and cars.

Your the one who said christians invested marriage, no one else in this thread. So i dont care if your religious or not. You said it, you centered it around religion and marriage, so defend it or walk away.

The comment about reading was meant to say that if you DID read things prior to the birth of christ then maybe you would find that marriage did exist before then, before the religion, and it would be impossible for christians to have invented marriage.

They just stole it from a society that maybe had guys mounting each other most likely.

I say that Civil Unions are just acknowledgements that you 2 are "going out/steady/boyfriend-girlfriend etc"

Marriage is the big deal most people yearn for, be it only through the court or a full blown wedding ceremony.

Truth_Seekr

Civil Unions aren't recognized by the Federal Government and therefore it is impossible for them to be equal to a marriage. Not to mention that many states either don't have them or have limited marital rights for them.

This wouldn't be a problem if marriage was a purely religious term, but sadly it's become intertwined with government .

Militaries still do that to this date.. Just not as extreme.. Most train in small knit groups of 20 or so.. Drill seargents are ment ot be tough.. To cause a brotherly relationship amongst the soldiers to increase their will to fight for the men next to them.

Too bad that wouldn't happen.. In this age both people have to consent to being married.. Animals, children (by law) and cars are in capable of consenting.

Who has it said that god said it that hasnt gone through countless alterations over the centuries because people think the people who wrote it down "got it wrong" when it benefits their own perception?

Guess that whole thing about the devil being the serpent tempting man which isnt agreed upon but by Genesis and the new testament but not all of the others just means that it was stated wrong, so had to be changed. One author, tons of writers through the centuries, and to be honest christians cant even agree on which bible is correct on all things.

Which is marriage. Same thing.

Exactly all the people on the illegal side is they just want it not to be called marriage. Some people call them stupid for this but same can be said for the people who are fighting just to get the word marriage.

Why not have the government step out of the marriage debate, and issue only civil unions, allowing churches or other religious establishments issue marriage licenses. That way, marriage stays "sacred" and in the hands of the religious.

By licenses you mean fancy pieces of paper that mean nothing except belief wise, sure.. Real licenses insinuates its government related.

I don't see why people think this is such a big deal. There are people in this country who can't afford a meal, natural disasters that have devastated certain areas, and people dying because they can't afford health insurance...yet THIS is what people are focusing on? When has a gay couple getting married DIRECTLY affected your life? Let 'em get married!

Religion started marriages. Almost all religions define marriage as between a man and a women. Who is the government to say something different.

-Austin-

Because religion does not have the monopoly on it anymore. We no longer live in the dark ages.

The definition, is between a man and women.

Whos definition? Obviously not Connecticuts. Also not by gays who are married.

Christianity's, which invented marriage.

lol, mariage existed long before christinanity

-Austin-

Their definition is becoming increasingly irrelivant, fortunately.

No. Thats like saying that Christianity's definition of baptism or communion is irrelevant.

Nice spelling on "irrelivant" by the way.

Christianity, and any religion's take for that matter, on marriage kind of lost relevence in this country the very second one could have an athiestic marriage devoid of any religious imput and still be accepted by the state. The very second that happened, it stopped being solely a religious institution.

I think that if you want to be married in a church, fine. But for the government to recognize anything, the couple should have to get a civil union separately.

Why would a piece of paper commemorating a spiritual union of two people be of any interest to a government? :P

The marriage licenses would remain in circulation(coming only from the church) so that people can say "Hey, we're married. It's not just a civil union for us. Boohah!" .

The government wold be the only place handing out civil unions and their benefits.

Actualy, Alexander the Great had a lifetime male partner, it's pretty well known by all historians. He only slept with women to produce an heir. Look at how much ass he kicked.

The greatest artists/inventors of the Renaissance were also homosexual.

Since when does being a devout Christian mean you have to denounce others who have a different perspective on life than you? Wouldn't it be more Christ-like to keep your offensive opinions to yourself? Even Jesus wasn't rude to people like this.

And whoever invented it, would be opposed to two dudes mounting each other.

Homosexuality was widely practiced during those times...

Right. Weren't the Greeks from back them supposedly all into it? Namely around the Spartans and such time periods?

Alexander the Great was said to have had boyfriend as well as a woman

Actualy, Alexander the Great had a lifetime male partner, it's pretty well known by all historians. He only slept with women to produce an heir. Look at how much ass he kicked.

The greatest artists/inventors of the Renaissance were also homosexual.

Philip of Macedon (Alexander's father) had numerous gay relationships including with young boys.. He so to speak paved the road for Alexander by conqueroring all of Greece including the famous City States Sparta and Athens.. He also perfected the Phalanx formation, by giving the men lighter armor but increasing the spear length by two to three times.. He also was the first Greek commander to use calavery as a key force in his military, where basically his hoplites held the enemy in place, calavry flanked.. And hopelites finished them off.. Not to mention he was a genious when it came to siege craft.

YAY FEEDBACK.

I'm conservitive/republican/extremeist Christian so yeh. My views, that's all. I could say much more offensive things, but I don't feel like being banned.

Since when does being a devout Christian mean you have to denounce others who have a different perspective on life than you? Wouldn't it be more Christ-like to keep your offensive opinions to yourself? Even Jesus wasn't rude to people like this.

Extremist Christians (or extremist anything) tend to forget their own teachings when they let their anger and arrogance take control of their puny minds.

Really? I never knew that about Alexander the Great. I guess I'll have to research it sometime.

What Renaissance artists are you talking about, by the way?

-Jiggles-

Yeah, in the movie Alexander, they downplayed his relationship with Hephaestion a great deal (because of the target audience and all), but the references are still clearly there "... And Alexander was never beaten again, except by Hephaestion's thighs."

Michaelangelo and Leonardo were gay (not with each other). I would reference more but it would divert away from the topic. Shouldn't be hard to find.

There's a large difference between having a differing opinion from another person and being down-right disrespectful.

Meh, the line blurs for me. I'm not right in the head.

I ain't no Jesus, I have small tolerence of anything. Expecially when gays, raping, perverts, insulting my friends is involved.

Anyways, can go back to rainbow posting now. I'm out.

So basically, you're not a real Christian but using the name to further your own opinions? Appalling.

That movie was awful :? I think Oliver Stone thought it best not to make the viewers even more uncomfortable with elaborating on the relationship..

No, I'm sorta freelanced from any major denomination. I'm kinda ticked at the church I'm attending. I preffer litteral translation. They try to desypher it like it has some code.

The WBC isn't even a religious group. They only use the curtain of religion to hide the fact that they're simply prejudice, racist and anti-American and use Christianity as a shield against critisism and legal action. The only reason they even exist is because the government protects them due to "separation of 'church' and state".
