If you understood about food chains and ecosystems you'll know that there must be a balance and that the number of predators must not be allowed to reach a certain size because if it does then the balance is lost. At the moment their is 1300 wolves and 300,000 elk but eventually the wolves will flurish even more since there is so much food on offer and because they have no natural predators to hunt them. And when that happens the balance within the food chain and ecosystem will change and the wolves will begin to over hunt their main prey. When this happens the wolves will be forced to move where there is prey to be eaten, this could lead them into human settlements where they kill livestock or human life.

Aswell as this with the elk numbers reduced then other animals within the food chain who rely on the elk will also be affected with a dramatic loss in their numbers due to wolves over hunting them. Thats why they must cull the wolves to reduce their numbers and keep the balance in check, since wolves are at the top of the food chain they only consume and dont produce. Elk however will consume and produce food for other species on the food chain, its all an inter-connected cycle that must be kept in balance.

Yes it might be nasty to kill 600 wolves and yes the wolves have done nothing wrong except live their own lives in the only way they know. But in order to keep a balance within the ecosystem and the food chain then a culling must take place to keep the number of wolves in check. And since wolves have no natural predators and they don't die quick enough of natural causes then humans must keep the balance in check and take part in a wolf culling.

I did go to it but this is not Culling,Culling is only on over populated animals,The grey wolf is Stable.

Culling

These wolves are being killed to preserve balance, not as a rampant spree. They do this worldwide. I love wolves, but this is simply what needs to be done. Plus, it's more than just "a few elk" that have died.

Lollilops, I just found out that it's supposed to be Call OFF the guns. I thought it was an odd twist on call of the wild :lol:

I think it's outrageous that people are outraged at this. Although, I think they should let civilian hunters do all of it instead, therefore boosting morale and gaining money for local ecosystems instead of spending federal dollars.
