This is the problem with most people. They can't separate their personal feelings toward someone who's making an argument they disagree with. Contest my arguments, not me.
There's no logic in your arguments. There's no logic in assuming that all teenage girls in the world are shallow, stupid, evil etc. There's no logical in assuming that all state troopers are diligent followers of the law. There's no logic in stating that most people are evil and the solution is living a solitary life.I never claimed that anything I've said is logical. I'm not implying that they're illogical, but that since they concern my personal opinion, it is inappropriate to even bring logic into the situation. Logic is objective. What I've said is purely subjective; I've merely expressed my opinion. I could understand if we were discussing a topic which would be more suitable for determining whether my argument is logical or not, but we aren't. Logic is appropriate for matters which do not concern subjectivity. It's more appropriate for analyzing facts, or making inferences on irrefutable matters. However, since we're discussing an opinion (mine) which can vary from person to person, then discussing logic is highly inappropriate.

I lol'ed when I saw the image of the trooper.
Cop essentially commits double homicide, gets what equates to paid vacation, and wants workers comp. And people wonder why many don't trust cops at all.
The fact they get almost no punishment for manslaughter...

I personally think it's awesome and funny. I mean, damn. You kill two people and get a paid vacation. What more can you ask for? Win!
Until it is your family members whom he kills and then (assuming you have a conscience) its not so much win anymore...There's no logic in your arguments. Nice story but it makes no sense at all. You totally misinterpreted the meaning of logic.
pretty much this. complete and total BS. if a non cop or non politician did this say me or you wed be in jail for life where we belong oh no a politician or cop or government person commits murder and we turn the other way and people honestly still ask me why i dont trust the government. some lawyer somewhere more than likely a liberal is defending him and ensuring he gets all this awesome stuff and low jail time. and conservatives are the rascists for saying throw him in jail and lock away the key. i guaranttee rush or glenn beck would say that but get blasted for it. this case illustrates pretty close to everything wrong with the world today. sorry to bring that into it though its probably in the thread somewhere but just pointing out what we all know would happen. oh well further proof i cant trust cops.Cop essentially commits double homicide, gets what equates to paid vacation, and wants workers comp. It's less an issue of bad cops and more cops getting preferential treatment. If there was required service for everyone to be one for x amount of time, then I might understand. But everyone who is a police officer chose that as their career. They knew the risks, the stresses they would be under, and the large responsibility having that amount of authority entails.
They shouldn't get preferential treatment, whatever it is they do.
I read the story from the OP, which was somber, and then I read the comments within this thread, which made me shake my head repeatedly. cybrcatterMe as well.
@rragnaar, you say it got 'worse', does that mean sad topics are bad in the first place? Baconbits2004I worded it wrong. I just meant that it was sad enough before I saw that there are people that are happy about people getting randomly killed by the thoughtlessness of others.

So if I save someone from 2 house fires and then kill them later on, can my defence be that I saved him twice and killed him once, so my good deeds over ride my bad one?
And it doesn't matter what you think of the girls that died (and we really know nothing about them, so your claim is completely unfounded,) he was speeding (which is illegal) on the wrong ide of the road (which is illegal,) and texting while driving (which is also illegal.) What part of that makes it reasonable for him to go free?
He's a cop who risks his life everyday to help and protect people. He made one mistake which resulted in the deaths of two girls who probably would have never done half of what he's done for society. He should be excused.
he made more than one mistake. here what he did wrong. 1. speeding 2. texsting behind wheel and 3. driing on wrong side of road. it was not a mistake. if we did this mistake we would be charge with murder and put in jail for years to come. stop being blind
A lot ofBS goes on in police departments. I mean officers who contradict the creed. I mean officers who abuse the comp & benefits. The COPS throughout Cleveland including the suburbs use to Clock each other in and out so their time reports said they were working twelve hours a day or worked days they weren't even there.
Goodofficers REALLY are hard to find. People abuse authority. Many people seek the authority JUST so they can abuse it. So howfairly or well do you think the average person handles a position of authority? Very few can. They abuse it.
Manyconstables never gave tickets to people they knewbut gave tickets to minor violators. And these people theynever gave tickets to were some ofthe worst violators. They didn't even use discretion, they just played the favor game. So in essence many of the people who got tickets for stupid, petty or frivolous violations only got them because they didn't know theofficer nor any of his or her buddies.
One of the Lieutenants that I've known all of my life could be a chief by now, but he's still a Lieutenant because he's like me. He's blunt and is only tactful when necessary. He tells the truths that other people don't to be public. He'll let things slide and look the other way, BUT there's a limit. He doesn't play favorites either. Nobody wants people like him in a position of authority. He would rain on their parade. There's a difference between letting some violations slide here and there and JUST letting people walk all over the law. That's what many of the officers do, they just walk all over it an do favors for their friends while then dump on the strangers.
I agree. I have a bunch of cop friends and they always drive when we go out. The dude pulls up in my driveway with a Jack & Coke in his cupholder and off we go. We get in free everywhere because they're cops and they drive home drunk because they won't get arrested. Last month one of the guys literally beat the crap out of some poor schmuck at the bar that was talking too much. The only thing they have to watch out for is the state troopers. Apparently the city cops and the state troopers will arrest one another, but not guys from their own unit.A lot ofBS goes on in police departments. I mean officers who contradict the creed. That guy made 68K as a cop. We pay those guys way too much money for what the job they do. wstfldI was thinking that as well i mean that's a HIGH salary what the hell man? With all the benefits they get already..... Tho im from the UK i need to check if our guys and gals in blue are paid that much! The guys a loser he was breaking the law by Txting while driving surely? He was not paying attention to his job or the road and has no respect for the danger a car can represent! He should be in Jail at least 5 years he was negligent and its Disgusting that he is getting away with this. [QUOTE="lamprey263"]a cops wife where I live was texting while driving, killed a whole family of like 4 or 5, didn't get into trouble, got fined instead, then the fine was dropped because she was a cop's wife and she claimed cop's didn't make enough I'll edit if I can find links, this was years ago Well guys and Girls if you want to break the law while driving become a cop in the USA! You can Mow down entire family's and not even get warned. IF its an accident fair enough when your taking the piss and driving while txting you should be punished. That is not justice.
Why the hell is he getting such a light sentence? That's BS.chessmaster1989
cause he's a cop i guess

Thats not secondary degree murder, for the police officer had no intention of committing murder.. Second degree murder is a crime of passion, meaning you losing your temper and killing a person.. First degree is pre-mediated... What he did was irresponsibility that cost the lives of people, thats manslaughter.
I was watching HLN the other day where this cop had ran over a little girl who ran out into the road while he was responding to calls from another officer who was wounded and receiving fire. They found out that he had sent and recieved texts within the same time frame that the accident happened and they gave him 5 years.
Mind you this is after it was PROVEN that the girl was hit while in the middle of the road in an area that was NOT a crosswalk. Now compare that to what this guy did and what he got for it. See anything wrong?
I hate this crap. Cops should be punished more for breaking the law while in uniform, not less. They took the job to uphold the law therefore they should be held to the absolute highest standards of the law. Corrupt cops are the scum of the earth.

Wow man that is the coldest thing I have ever read. Even colder than the article itselfCorrect.[QUOTE="BuryMe"]
[QUOTE="BluRayHiDef"]
Do you know how dangerous it is for a state trooper to pull someone over on the side of a high way? The person they pull over can be carrying a loaded weapon. There's also the possibility that the trooper can be clipped by an on coming vehicle and killed or severely injured. That happens pretty often. Though he may not have experienced dangerous situations while on the job, the fact is that he's willing to risk his life in case it does happen. The possibility of danger is part of the job. Heck, even his normal (non-dangerous) routine is beneficial to society. He deters people from speeding (oops!) and committing other traffic violations and handles any other emergency which may come his way. Hence, he's beneficial to society. He enforces the law.
BluRayHiDef
But none of that excuses his reckless driving. He broke the laws that he is sworn to uphold
Look, the guy made a mistake. Give him a break. It's not as if the two girls are suffering anymore; they're gone. He put them out of their potential misery. Thanks to him, they don't have to worry about the potential woes of life. They can rest peacefully. As for the trooper, now he has to live with the guilt of having killed two people; that alone suffers as punishment for what he did.

2nd degree murder is murder during a felony
texting while driving is a felony if there is major injuries
