Officer Larry DePrimo, who gave homeless man warm boots, honored by NYPD after said pic of him went viral. He didn't even know the pic was taken and he is keeping the receipt. Props to the Sketchers store manager who gave the cop an employee discount when he didn't have to.

The vast majority of cops are good people.

lol, saw this story on the morning news and on the front page of the NY Daily newspaper. They even gave the officer and the camera lady an interview on the morning show, haha. Seriously thou, the officer does seem like a nice guy. You know something is wrong with the police department when a public servant is nationally praised and recognized for doing his job. What stuck out the most to me his the fact that he spent his own money. Mega props to this gentleman, hopefully his services will be an inspiration to all the other public servants.

According to OT and a lot of people who are anti-police, one police officer only reflects the rest when it is something negative.

Rodney King beating? All cops are racist monsters.

Officer gives homeless man shoes?Eh, he's just one man and doesn't reflect the rest of the scum.

The contradictions are almost laughable.

Most cops are cool, but having so much power does amplify the bad personality traits of a few.

when we start to see more stories like this instead of the negative stuff than people will change their outlook. As of now, the P.D. is a mess and they are the only ones that can clean up their image. I can't speak for others, but I've seen more abuse of the badge than showing pride in it. The simple fact that this incident is getting so much attention should be very telling.

How will they get fired? How would their boss know whether or not they enforced an inhumane law in many circumstances? Vuurk

Because common behaviors create a pattern. I'm not going to risk my job just because you think a law is unjust or inhumane. Do something about it. Get the laws changed. Why would you ask me to risk my family's well-being by breaking the law?

I have never had a problem with Cops. Even in my "less than law abiding" days they were always respectful even as they were putting me in the back of a car.

Since the article focuses on the NYPD, how are compassionate police officers relevant to the questions the article itself poses regarding the fair treatment of minorities and police brutality?

they're unicorns dipped in carmel with a giant wooden stick logged in their head. Then air bud dunks on them.

It's sad that cops are demonized so much as to cause this to be extraordinary.

I have utmost respect for police officers who are courageous and altruistic. I just wish they were more common.

it would be disingenuous to suggests that this lone officers kind deed reflects the good nature that is the NYPD. Rather, one should only conclude that this cop is actually a sympathetic, caring guy who probably does good deed in spite of NYPD policy.
