[QUOTE="Lockedge"] Some people see marriage as a finish line to achieving a successful relationship, and peer pressure also can force the hand. Sometimes one half of the couple wants one, and the other agrees to just to appease them.Dank_Dangler

I know all that can happen, and nobody's situation is the same. In my experience there was no way in hell I would of got married if I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Besides, weddings are **** expensive.

Traditionally, the brides family pays for the wedding, so what are you worried about...other than commitment?

I'm not worried about anything I am married. And yeah traditionally the brides family pays for it. Realistically that doesn't happen all too often.

It is only beautiful to gay people. Other people are either indifferent or disgusted by it.

...so hetero people get married over indifference or disgust? Sounds about right...

I think you completely missed my point.

Some people will think it's beautiful, some will not. But it's a right they are (or should be) entitled to nonetheless.

Dank_Dangler

Opinions are always the right of the individual.

Meh. Just saying it's only fair. Everyone else can marry, so why can't they?

I don't see how it is necessarily a right. If marriage was defined as a conferred status of union between a man and a woman, how would gay marriage even be a possibility, let alone a right?

What's with all these ppl that say marriage sucks? I know that's a common belief but if you hate the person you're married to why the hell did you marry them in the first place?

chesterocks7

I'm not saying that the person that isn't super happy about getting married doesn't want to commit themselves to their partner for the rest of their life. Some just don't like marriage, either due to personal experiences, or the principle of the matter. Some rather stay unwed but still fully committed.

This is very true, much like me, except I would ditch the stupid cow in a heartbeat for a newer model...Intelligent people should never commit to a stupid person, no matter how hot their bod- it will NEVER work.

I didn't just say any of that.

Are you saying all gay couples don't actually love each other and stay together just for the sex? Wow....

A While ago California legalized gay marriage. This event will certainly ruin America! Now before you get on your high horses and start calling me "Homophobic" let me say two things first "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" and I'm not against it for the reason you're thinking. The first lesbian/gay couple was an 87 year old and 84 year old.

This messes up most guys thoughts of a hot lesbian couple. Now every time a guy thinks about that he will get the awful image of an 87 and 84 year old getting it on (eww). This will set off a chain-reaction. Now that young men will stop thinking about lesbians incla$$ they will have too pay more attention incla$$ Because of that some of the people that would be on the streets mugging, killing and stealing will have good jobs. Since people are no longer dying for stupid reasonthe human population will grow to 10 billion in 10 years. Since the earth can hold that many people we will go closer to the sun and the temperature on earth will be 1000 degrees! Don't worry you wouldn't melt because you would die early from the lack of food.

People need to stop acting as if getting married automatically awards them a damn medal or something. Regardless of sexuality.

No marriage is based on sex. Sex can be had outside of marriage. Children can be born outside of marriage. Marriage is based on love and wanting to spend your life with the person you're married to.

Marriage can be based on a lot of things. Sex, love, politics, etc.

Marriage is a civil right. It should be open to two people, regardless of sex.

The marriage I am speakign about is not based purely on sex which is what the statement I was answerign was alluding to. The statement I responded to stated that all gay marriage was base don sex. That is completely false.

I saw a comment like this in a thread a while back made by a few people and I'm wondering what is so special about gay marriage and why is it a beautiful thing?

Its as much beautiful as a straight marriage is.

You are wrong. Period.

Homosexuality isnot solely based on sex. Just because the compound word includes the word "sexuality" we shouldnt derive anything from it, just as much as we dont derive anything from it in the case of the word "heterosexuality". Double standards? Yes it seems.

Gay marriage is not based on sex. Gay people are not only sexually attracted to the same sex but also have feelings towards the same sex, such as love. Therefore, a gay marriage is not based on sex. Or it can be just as much as straight marriage can be based on sex.

I have no problem with civil union of gays, but marriage is originally a Christian term, and Cgristianity teaches it's wrong to be gay so... you catch my drift.

Oh, yeah, how come the word gay in the title had to be censored? I'm not trying to be offensive, just making discussion.

turtlethetaffer

As others have said, no, marriage is not a Christian term.

I couldnt stress that enough.

I actually smiled at that. Two women who have been together forever finally have a chance to show the world their love for one another before they die. It's wonderful and they more than likely died happy because of it.

I don't understand what's the big debate over gay marriage. People against it need to stop and ask themselves "What does it do to me?", it's the same thing that 1/2 the things people complain about need to do as well.

Yes. There is brotherly love, there is friendly love, there is love which is described as "falling in love" etc.

A person that would get married out of love, it would be the last type of love I mentioned. Therefore your point that you dont ask your friends that you love to marry you is mute since the love you feel for them is friendly love. You havent fallen in love with them.

But a woman and a woman, that's hot! I lol'd, don't feel like getting into this debate again with the over zealous homophobes, its a free country and as a million other people have said marriage is not exclusive or original to Christianity. Gay marriage is just as beautifal (and has the potential to be just as ugly) as any other marriage, odds are they're all destined to fail anyway. The ignorance in this topic is destroying my last shreads of faith in humanity.

[QUOTE="alexside1"] "There are different types of love" isn't that your opinion?alexside1

You didn't answer my question correctly. That's not what I am asking at all.

You asked me if thats my opinion. I said yes and proceeded to explain.

You have yet to make your point clear.

[QUOTE="PannicAtack"]It's not so much that it's a "beautiful thing" as it's "something they should be entitled to." I know a gay guy who's married.Burnt_Star

they shouldnt be entitled to be married cuz marriage is suposed to be between a man and a woman not a man and a man thats sick

So you label those who disagree with you (when comes to marriage) as homophobes? That's very prejudge of you.

What label would be more appropriate for them, religious crusaders? I gave the most fitting name I could think of, and in terms of prejudice denying someone there rights is a bit more "prejudge" (prejudice) than name calling.

[QUOTE="alexside1"] I don't see any difference when it comes to love. They all the same thing to me.alexside1

Thats not my problem. There are different types of love whether you want to realise it or not.

"There are different types of love" isn't that your opinion?

Is the love for your father the same love as the love for your girlfriend?

Denying someone rights that to some people consider to be mortality wrong is prejudice? That makes no sense.
