Haven't ever played D&D, but I played the PC games that uses the system.

Rest in peace, Gary. :(

My sentiments go out to the family and friends of this great man.

Seeing as I'm the resident D&D nerd on these forums (8)) this really hurts. :(

You don't have to have played any tabletop RPG in order to have this be a great loss.

He was one of the most important people in all of gaming, tabletop or otherwise.

Any game (Especially RPG's) owe this man (and many of the other team members which created the original D&D) a debt of gratitude.

From what I hear, almost every western RPG is heavily influenced by his game.

People who don't know Gary, don't know role-playing. Probably why they keep confusing role-playing with other genres. D&D is the first role-playing game ever made, and although some nutballs took the books a little too seriously, the gaming industry owes a lot for what he and Dave have done.

actually... i haven't read much about it, but I'm assuming that he died of old age. and when someone dies of old age, no spell can bring them back :( you can cast reincarnate... but that brings their soul back into a different body.

actually... i haven't read much about it, but I'm assuming that he died of old age. and when someone dies of old age, no spell can bring them back :( you can cast reincarnate... but that brings their soul back into a different body.

maybe I should group with you, my dm would rule that he died of old age because of the specific thing that did end up causing him to expire could only come upon a person in their old age.

4E mechanics look fantastic. I don't like the fluff that they're putting in. Dragon-blooded and tieflings in as core races and gnomes out as a MM race :? but gnomes was mah fav :(

oh well, its just a nitpick thing. Its going to be a good system. I like how the core books aren't going to have much fluff, they're just going to have rules. You can chose to get the fluff books. Good setup.

Also, a lot of good mechanics that will make large combat encounters go much more fluidly :D
