I just read this article about an interview with Dick Morris, thought this quote was interesting:

"We should drug test every high school student. We should drug test everybody that gets a student loan. Anybody that's using drugs should not get a government student loan."

This guy is insane, I don't know much about him other than that he's constantly on Fox News.

I'm guessing he said this before he went home and had a nice scotch on the rocks and laughed manically while trying to figure out a way in which to pay for such a thing.

Taking drugs --> liability to society, destroyer of family values. How could you not arrive at that logical conclusion.

Students who waste their money on drugs aren't as common as this guy thinks. He'd probably be better off targeting students who waste their money on ridiculous amounts of alcohol instead

I agree that Ron Paul is horrific, but not for those two points, I actually agree with him on ending those two wars.

As for drug testing students, hell no to high school students if that's what he was suggesting, way too authoritarian. As for students getting government loans, fine, so long as they start testing for alcohol as well. Most of the students I know that use are more repsonsible than the ones that binge drink, providing the two don't overlap.

I spent mine on 20-year-old scotch.

EDIT: Let me further add that I don't click on links that aren't linked. This link is linked, but I'm not clicking on it because I'm a lazy motherf***er. In spite of this, I have determined that the guy suggesting this is A.) White, and B.) Fat.

lol clearly the guy doesn't give much thought to the cost of things. Even if drug tests were free I would still disagree with this as there are more important things for the people running the tests to do.

Yeah, and I also think the bigger indicator of whether or not there's a problem in this regard should be graduation rate of students getting loans, and I'm pretty sure it's typically pretty high.

You can only use food stamps for food, I think there are procedures in place to make sure you can't spend all of your loan money on things not pertaining to school, and people who are on welfare can't afford to be spending it on anything other than what they need.

The (relatively few, although significant) disagreements that I have with Ron Paul have definitely not to do with those issues. I consider it rather cliche to make Orwellian references, although in this case I do think that it would be accurate to draw the comparison against drug testing high school students.

Many welfare recipients spend their subsidy on weed and alcohol first... they consider those to be 'needs'

How many exactly is "many?" I've known quite a few welfare recipients and I've never known them to buy alcohol first or weed ever. Besides, if you've ever seen the way most of them live it's not like they're living the high life or anything (no pun intended).

I dont know any precentages or anything like that. But I have known that people sell the foodstamps for like 50 cents on the dollar in order to buy their weed and whatnot.

That means they run out of foodstamps pretty fast, not only are they not getting food from the stamps they sell but they are losing half the value of the stamps as well. To me that makes absolutely no sense, you're going to trade food for weed, in other words you're going to give yourself the munchies with no way to cure them?

It's not a generalization at all.. nor baseless... I'm not ashamed to admit that, some years ago, I lived in a subsidized housing complex (I was the only resident who paid full rent, because I was working and refused a hand-out)... I saw and experienced what I'm referring to first-hand...

B.S...The majority of HS students aren't even on drugs, contrary to popular belief. I myself am one and I don't do any drugs, and neither do any of my close friends. He clearly didn't think this over logically either, many people are required to take certain prescription drugs, so when those show up they have to go through the effort of explaining and getting a citation.

Additionally, different kinds of tests are needed to pick up different types of drugs. Certain drugs only show up through blood, or other means of testing. I think requiring all HS students to submit to blood testing is a bit strict as well as stupid, considering the fact that the MLB doesn't even force it's players to give up that right, only requiring urine testing.

Yep, the percentages are way to low to actually justify such a huge expenditure on the government, or any private organization's part.

Drugs are illegal, so why should I have to pay for the loans of kids doing something illegal? I admit I haven't looked at the stats of how many HS students are on drugs, but even if it's a small percentage, those who are on it shouldn't be recieving tax payer money

I think we should make it an option. Send a form home, and parents can choose to not have it done. But yeah I agree we could put a lot of kids in jail though. I completely think we should, just not forced.

Okay... But That still wont convince me ever to do it. Then again, nothing will, i don't give in to peer pressure. I create my own paths in life, i don't need any stimulates, illusionate drugs or any type of drug to take control of my life.

But you said "do" drugs as in the Present tense and they are currently doing it which baffled me. Its pretty hard to see nation leaders doing drugs. Very hard.
