I just got back from GAME with my mam and I picked up Unreal Tournament for the 360 but my dad took one look at the 18's rating on it and said he's returning it tommorow and i'm not allowed to open it at all. He said it induces way too much stress but I told him i've been playing these kind of games for a pretty long time and that it really isn't that bad. The worst thing is that he's extremely unwilling to listen to my side of the arguement since he's a psychiatrist and has "seen this type of thing before". Any suggestions on what I should say to him. BTW, I'm 14 and mature for my age, I never curse or shout or do anything like that on LIVE or in real life.

Respect your parents wishes first of all. I had to deal with this same problem for quite a while. Just take it back and get another game you might want with a lower rating.

His house, his rules I'm afraid... or if you have an older brother or friend, just get them to buy it for you and don't tell your dad.

Snatch it when your dad is asleep, run away from home and stay at one of your mates' house for a couple of days.

I Can feel your fustration dude. Same thing happened to me when I got Area 51 for PS and San Andreas. You're going to have to talk to him but tell him "as mature guys". Regardless you're going to have to listen to him, he he wants to return it, regardless return it. But give it a couple shots before surrendering

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I didn't think the game was that great. It wasn't as good as the previous ones on the PC, and I even liked Unreal Championship on the XBox better...

Until you turn 18 you are uunder your parents jurisdiction so that wouldn't be a very good idea.

Have him play it with you.

"If you try it out and see that its not so bad then it might settle this"

He tries it, game is opened, you win either way cause he can't return it.

I did that before with GTA:SA and they told me not too buy another 18 without asking them, i still played it though as they know i'm pretty good at hiding stuff and will still play it if they say not to. My advice is go back and buy it and just play it when you're dad isn't home. If it dosn't come up with the 18 rating when you start up the game i might be able to make you one with a new cover that you could slip in the case with a 15 rating, you'll still have to hide the disk though.

Well, I could go on in an angry clearly biased rant against anyone in a field with anything to do with any form of psychology and many other fields, or I could just say what I would usually say:

Sucks to be you, dude. Sounds like there's nothing you can do.

Look at the long term, you open the game, play single player, get bored of multiplayer in less than a month once a better game comes out, and there's $60 gone. Just don't get your dad to the point where he says that you playing mature games before was wrong and he won't let you do it period. Be happy with what you have. My dad knows I'm mature so he buys them, but that will change within the next week when I turn 17

My dad has something against GTA probably because the first thing he saw of GTA:VC involved a Katana and someones head. But apart from that he is fine with anything else.

the 18 rating means an 18 year old has to buy it, but it ISNT against the law to play it if you are under that age. I heard that from a news article a couple a weeks ago, either gamespot or the BBC

Heh, well UT3 isn't a very good game anyway, so you aren't missing out on anything if you can't play it. Sucks for you though, my brother and I have been playing "violent" games since we were both in the 6-8 range each, and neither of us are "messed" up. I started with Mortal Kombat and Doom, and he started with Halo.

Quite honestly, I understand where you're coming from, but there isnt anything you can do. I empathise, but its really the people who make those ratings that are at fault. 17+ should literally mean that if you play it, you WILL be screwed up, not some vague suggestion. I played Doom when I was 3, Duke Nukem 3D at 6, Diablo 2 at 10, Doom 3 at 12, and I'm not insane and I dont want to kill people... yet.

Yea, that kinda sucks, id say try reasoning with him, but since you said he didn't really listen to you in the first case its probably a lost cause...

You could just go against his will and play it anyway, and then claim it couldnt be taken back? I dunno...

If it is any constellation, i didn't find the game that great anyway, kind of dissapointing infact

Your dad is a psychiatrist. That's two reasons why he knows more than you and why you should do as he says.
