what is the darkest music that you listen to?
all my music is dark. But the darkest of the dark would have to be Velvet Acid christ, PSyclon nine, Hocico, the Retrosic, PRide and Fall, Interlace, the Cruxshadows, Aslan Faction, and Asphyxia.

Any band can attempt to be dark, but I would put my money on Staind simply because a lot of their subject matter and the songwriting is pretty dark.
Mogwai can be pretty dark occasionally, I guess. With stuff like You Don't Know Jesus, Christmas Steps and Mogwai Fear Satan.
That kind of stuff is definitely far from what I listen to on a regular basis, though.
define dark...

gothic, lyrics that depict death, the darker aspects of human existance, feelings of social isolation, turning depression into meaningful lyrics, viewing life from a less optomistic standpoint, not angsty.
All the music I listen to is dark. I listen to it without the lights on.

what artists do you listen to? or at least what are your favorites?
Though some of it wouldn't exactly be considered "dark", a good amount of Death Cab for Cutie's songs are pretty damn dark.sammyjenkis898"Soul Meets Body" being the darkest of course lol
All of it. None of my music produces any photons :o.chessmaster1989Yeah, thats what I was going for but OT cant take a joke.

Ah, well if that's what you meant, then definitely The Mountain Goats.
John Darnielle writes some brutally depressing songs.

In that case... Dark Fortress, The Cruxshadows, Nevermore (Somewhat...), Necrophagist, Edge Of Sanity...lots of what I listen to fits that descriptionSopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows, it's just freaky, and incredibly beautiful.
It's literally an insight into the mind of a deeply disturbed person. He claims he doesn't write the songs, but rather they are "brought" to him by ghosts, spirits, and all sorts of paranormal entities, which he calls The Ensemble Of Shadows (hence the band's name). He says it was thanks to these spirits that he was able to overcome years of severe depression and start making music. He never shows up in public, will not give interviews unless his anonymity is guaranteed, and refuses to give concerts "for humans". He's also a transgender, so I guess I should be calling him "she". :P
Ditto, I used to love all that goth and "screamo" stuff when I was about 15.. NIN and th Cure is as dark as it gets for me these days.I don't listen to very dark music. I suppose the darkest would probably be Nine Inch Nails or Smashing Pumpkins.

I used to listen to Velvet Acid Christ but I got bored of it and turned to something more mellow.

Mellow rhymes with yellow.

well the stuff that depress me is stuff like City and Colour, GSY!BE, American Football, Explosions in The Sky, and ambient and experimental stuff like that. Metal usually gets me angry and pumped up.
hmm darkest i have is probably Emperor but i dont even think they are that dark by black metal standards
You should listen to some ambient black metal or something:)well the stuff that depress me is stuff like City and Colour, GSY!BE, American Football, Explosions in The Sky, and ambient and experimental stuff like that. Metal usually gets me angry and pumped up.

I like Bathory and Mayhem, but it is really hard to find good black metal (at least in my experience.)

Listen to Alcest. Sniper linked them for me in another thread and theyre really good, and I dont normally like Black Metal.Dreaming Neon Black is one of the most oppressive-feeling albums I possess. It's amazing. But if by "darkest", you mean "closest to death metal" (which seems to be what the people I talk to outside the internets think), it'd have to be Amon Amarth (at this moment the only death metal I really listen to).thepwninator
Dreaming Neon Black is probably my favorite Nevermore album. It's pretty dark, but it doesn't try to hard to sound that way.
