in movies a characters dying is usually what Directors use as the "dramatic" part of the movie, in what movies did a characters death have the greatest emotional impact on you?

for me it would be;

Lion King- when Mufasa dies. i was 6 when i first saw the movies, and to date it's one of the few movies that have made me cry.

Grave of the Fireflies- i cried like a baby when
Setsuko dies
what about you?

Bambi was a tear-jerker I suppose. Also, when I was a kid I saw a movie callled The Champ with a very young Ricky Shroeder (sp?) where his dad is a boxer and ends up dying after a fight. That was rather sad.

Death in movies really don't affect me that much. I never cried watching a film. Although sometimes I do get left wishing that a character didn't die. Kind of like Ryu's girlfriend in the movie called Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. I loved her performance in that movie and wished that she could have been on for longer.

Either *Spoilers* Kagero's death in Ninja Scroll, or the offscreen demise of Mills' wife in Se7en *End of Spoilers*

And yes, the warnings are pretty useless, but I'm too lazy and primitive to linkify...

:P Nope, just a token effort at protecting those who haven't viewed either movie...I don't believe there's to many who haven't now, so...

Uh, I don't really like this movie but I guess the death was pretty dramatic: Satine's death in Moulin Rouge.

it's a big question. will authors and writers sacrifice one of their characters to tell a better story? i'm doing that right now with mine.

Bambi's mom dying used to get to me when I was a kid. Also, even though no one died,  in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, when the baby penguin is separated from it's mommy, that part used to make me cry like a baby. :cry:

Wizard of Oz, when the Wicked Witch of the West dies.  Who will make everyone's lives miserable now? Wicked Witch of the North?  She has no credibility!

Transformers: The movie when Optimus Prime was killed by Megatron.  When you're a little kid watching cartoons and see one of your favorite characthers die, especially when you never see that on tv, that just messes you up bad. That was just cold-blooded.

Anyone who comes in this thread and cries foul of spoliers is an idiot.

When Ofelia dies in Pans Labyrinth, that totally took me off guard. It was also pretty sad, kids never really die in movies. Especially fairy tale inspired ones!
