They dident sell out. They did what they wanted to do. They dident feel like doing the same thing over again and again. I dont blame them. Metallica pretty much influenced every metal band around today. Their legends whether you like it or not.

Maybe if you were talking about other forms of music, but in metal the same rules don't apply.

There are many ways to change your sound without going mainstream. Obviously, they wanted money. They could've changed their sound in countless ways, remaining an underground band. Instead, they left their fans and went for the mainstream audience.

Every band sells out at one point. Slayer sold out, Megadeth sold out, it happens. It's just a question of if they can back on the same track after they sold out. Megadeth did, Metallica appears to be getting there and Slayer is sort of a grey area.

Those are some of the bigger names in metal. Hell, those three bands are part of the "big four" thrash bands. Look at the hundreds of underground metal bands. Not mainstream, not going to be any time soon.

I don't know which band your talking to, but yes, I agree. Slayer is going to be calling it quits soon, and the guys in Megadeth and Metallica are getting old.

They were legends. Until they sold out. To me, they're just another mediocre band.

I doubt they're gonna be putting out many more albums. I can see them stopping in the next 10 years or so.

I don't know which band your talking to, but yes, I agree. Slayer is going to be calling it quits soon, and the guys in Megadeth and Metallica are getting old.

I was mainly aiming that towards metallica. Although They're one of my favorite and most influetial bands.

Let just wait and see what the albums sales do!! I bet it's up there! Go on itunes and see how popular the songs are already! I am a fan of metallica! Do I agree with everything they have done? No! But I still give them credit where it is deserved!

As far as changing sound in their albums come on are you kidding?? Every band changes their sound to some degree to make it fresh.

Thats in your oppinon. In my oppinon they're gods of metal no matter what.

My point exactly. When they all started getting big they started "selling out", but they will tell you that they got sick of playing the same stuff. Those bands were underground at one point too, they didnt just burst onto the screen like Jonas Brothers. I know some people that would even say bands like Mayhem or Gorgoroth have sold out.

They dident sell out. They did what they wanted to do. They dident feel like doing the same thing over again and again. I dont blame them. Metallica pretty much influenced every metal band around today. Their legends whether you like it or not.

No, they changed their sound to appeal to the mainstream audience. That's selling out.

Not really. The black album was still a very heavy album. They wanted to try new ideas out and like I said, they're we're getting bored doing the same thing.

There are many ways to change your sound without going mainstream. Obviously, they wanted money. They could've changed their sound in countless ways, remaining an underground band. Instead, they left their fans and went for the mainstream audience.

Are you serious? After puppets they we're loaded. Puppets dident even play on t.v. or much on the radio and still sold a hella bunch of albums.

Puppets was still a good album, and wasn't mainstream. Your completely missing the point.

No im not. The main reason they went mainstream was because james lost his voice and couldent do the same ****of singing as he did on their first 4 records.

So? That's not my problem. All that shows is that he isn't a good singer.

That may be so, but I just proved my point. They dident sell out. That also dosent mean that he was a bad singer.

The difference between Metallica and other bands is this -

Metallica changed their sound to appeal to a mainstream audience, therefore disappointing their fans and leaving them behind.

Other bands change their sound to "keep things fresh", but don't aim towards the mainstream audience, and more on what they enjoy and pleasing their fans.

Vocalists in death metal bands can do cookie monster vocals for years. He called it quits after four albums.

He had an awsome voice. A good thing dosent last forever.Plus he held that voice for a good amount of time. From 1981 to 1989.

Ok I have every album of metallica! I want your opinion on when they "sold out"?? Have I heard this in the past? Yes! I was told it was on the Load and Reload album! I really liked Load and Reload had some goods on it but I thought they did a good change! How is that selling out??
