in terms of death metal, i like demilich, deicide, gorguts, and morbid angel. if you want to get more on the technical side, cynic and atheist are some of my favorites.
btw, i suggest anyone here who likes death metal to download demilich's nespithe album for free. its on their official website and its one of the best albums ive ever heard.
Cynic is probably the greatest technical death band out there. :oin terms of death metal, i like demilich, deicide, gorguts, and morbid angel. if you want to get more on the technical side, cynic and atheist are some of my favorites.

I got the remastered version of Focus. Brilliant. The new Opeth CD came out today. A M A Z I N G. I advise everyone who visited this thread to buy it immediatly. While your at it, buy the rest of the Opeth catalogue. They're pretty much the crown jewel of metal (not exaggerating).thehandsread730
I've never really liked opeth, more like snorepeth if you ask me (yes I know, how clever). I heard the one that came out today won't exactly convert anybody like me.

The best are nile, obituary, necrophagist, cryptopsy, suffocation, Vital Remains, and Entombed
I've given opeth a pretty fair chance but.. no.. I can't take it. The production or whatever that makes the music sound so "eh" and songwriting that isn't really that amazing if you ask me.I've never really liked opeth, more like snorepeth if you ask me (yes I know, how clever). Shadows Falls' first album is considered death metal. The rest has gone metalcore.I like death metal, but I loath popular death metal.
I like: early Deicide, early Morbid Angel, early At The Gates, Massacra, Gorguts, Darkthrone's DM work, early Unleashed, Atheist, Demilich etc.
I hate: Lamb of God, Opeth, Necrophagist, Nile, Cannibal Corpse, In Flames, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, etc.
I almost feel like the above bands are "nu-death" (except for Amon Amarth, they are viking metal but people put them under death metal anyways). I know they aren't "nu" in any ways, but they suck in the same ways that nu-metal is to regular metal. It's just hipster metal.

Yeah I agree with you there except for the Opeth part, I found some of those you listed in the Hate category more as bands that are for 'branching' over to better stuff per se.

You're crazy if you think Nile is nu-anything. They're one of the more brutal tech death bands.

whoa you like deicide but not nile? every metal punk out there likes deicide, while I always thought nile was fairly unknown. and at the gates only had one good cd.
