here's my reasoning:
The fact that so many different cultures have developed their own religion based on God's creation of humanity must mean something. You also have to remember that these cultures most likely had not ever seen another type of religion, so the similarities between all of them are too great to be random.

It's all basic psychology, when you see something you can't explain, what else can it be other than 'a higher entity' and that can only be a god. Differences between different cultures is plenty big, various mythologies range more than sufficiently.

Yes, early man was too under-evolved to understand the world as much as we do now, so they just wrote it off that someone with more power than them must have done it
 but most religions believe in one god creating humanity, or something along those lines. they're all too similar to be a coincidence. that's all I'm going to say.  :|
I'm no expert on this, but I'm fairly confident that most mythologies (Greek/Roman/Viking) actually had many gods. Those were the big religions back in the day, now it's a single god, which might resemble individuality which is much stronger today than in the past.
