Someone mentioned expensive. Is the US really that expensive? I paid $2.99/gallon ($0.79/liter) of unleaded gas and that's in NY which is one of the more "expensive states".

That's what I thought. Whenever I visited Japan, I kept thinking the gas prices were like highway robbery. Also, my cousin over there was renting a 1400sq ft house and he's paying almost $2000/month. I thought that was just the price foreigners had to pay. But, it's the same for Japanese nationals. Compare that to one of the houses we own in Tucson. It's 2200sq ft and my mortgage/tax total per month is like $1200. Well, we just refinanced that house at 4.5%. So, it's actually a little less.
