I do intend to give the show a chance eventually. Likely after its finished its run and I can just sit down with all the episodes and watch it from beginning to end

I don't have showtime so I've never seen it. The premise doesn't sound interesting.

▲ If you left out that Lost part I'd agree with you. Dexter and Mad men are the best shows. Too bad most television is aimed for women. Infact, most television is terrible. ▲

There's actual character development as to why he is who he is. And he doesn't have much of a heart.

Yeah, I've watched it but the show still seems silly to me, especially the ultraviolet (as in beyond purple) prose of his internal monologue. Also, some of the "big plot twists" on the most recent season were pretty over the top. Edit: I find it somewhat entertaining, hence watching it, but I'm always kind of poleaxed by people proclaiming it one of the finest shows on TV, coz to me it's really, really not :P

Dexter is really good but I'd put shows like The Wire, Babylon 5, Six Feet Under and Deadwood above it.

I've said before and I'll say it again: John Lithgow is the reason season 4 was worth watching. The scenes with him and Michael C. Hall are pure gold. Also, the ending puts a much needed spin on the show.

For shows currently airing, or with upcoming seasons, I would say Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Parks and Recreation, Futurama, Archer, Treme, and South Park are about on par with Dexter (which is great), though obviously they are in different genres.

Yeah, it has gone downhill a bit. but, I still like it.
I never really noticed how odd it was for her to be his daughter, to be honest... I think I swooning over how awesome it was to finally see John Lithgow on TV again. I loved him in 3rd rock from the sun when I was younger, and I hadn't seen him in on tv in years. Dexters wife dying at the end was really shocking to me, but I think it's gonna take the series in a bad direction with this coming season.... Dexter playing daddy a lot more now? that doesn't sound good. :?
Personally, I think that Lost sucks. Earlier this year, there were two shows that I kept watching on a regular basis...Lost, and Breaking Bad. And both of those shows were running during approximately the same part of the year. It's funny out how I started out caring more about Lost, but progressively cared less and less as the season continued. Meanwhile, I initially cared less about Breaking Bad, but it continually became THE reason for me to sit on my ass and watch TV. I'd been through five seasons of Lost, completely anticipating seeing how the series ended, and then I found myself having suddenly lost nearly all interest before Season 6 was half over. By contrast, Breaking Bad just kept on getting better and better, even when I thought it couldn't get any better.

Anyway, my point is simply...I've never seen Dexter, but you saying that it's second to Lost doesn't exactly make me want to rush out and start watching it.
