I watched some movies that were made before September 11th and they have 911 as the cops' number.

Wow what a coincident. I'm not from America but I thought that 911 attack made the police change their numbers.
Interesting... I never have thought they could be connected in such a way, even in a young mind.
It's been 911 for all my life though (apart from here it's 999).

Oh thank God...

911 has been the number to call for emergency services for like 20+ years
9/11 just happens to be the same # (though some people will say it was not a coincidence)
No. 911 is the number people dial to reach emergency services in America, it has been like that for years. September 11th was the day the whole attacks happened.Wow what a coincident. I'm not from America but I thought that 911 attack made the police change their numbers.

911 isn't the cops' number, but rather a national emergency number, and has been since the late '60s. To be honest, I'm finding it hard not to think that this is a joke thread, as even Americans know that 999 is the number in the UK and other countries.
I don't even know what to say to this...Nobody in your life before 2001 told you how to dial 9-1-1 for help?XilePrincessit should have been obvious he wasn't from the US.

I'm not from the US either, but I know that. I believe the majority of countries use a 3-digit number starting with 9 as the emergency number, so I'd think with a little common sense if his country used a different one, 2 and 2 could be put together fairly easily.
ETA: I'm not sure if you mean that since he wasn't from the US the 9/11 isn't as big of a thing for him, but generally parents teach their children how to dial their country's emergency number at a young age, whatever it may be, so I don't know how a person could go all the way to 2001 without knowing about one.

Yeah its a phone number try and call it to see what happens.CyleM
I heard that they could track you down if you prank call them and get arrested.

Yes. Or at least fined for abuse of the 911 line.there are only 365 days >_>I still can't believe that 911 and 9/11 are just coincidents, it's like 1 in 1million.

Yes. Or at least fined for abuse of the 911 line. Yeah but you should still try it and let us in on the results.[QUOTE="fastesttruck"][QUOTE="stevoqwerty"]Yes. Can't do it, not from America.
It's not a coincidence. The attack was deliberate, it wasn't a random thing. Chances are pretty high the date was chosen for its significance.I still can't believe that 911 and 9/11 are just coincidents, it's like 1 in 1million.

Was anyone else thinking of Rescue 911 when coming into the thread? Maybe it was just me but I used to watch that half-baked reality TV/information TV show with William Shatner all the time in the early 90's.xXDrPainXxThat was my first thought...Needless to say it left me even more disappointed that it wasn't the subject of this thread :?

If you do it 3 times you can get arrested. Do it ounce and you will probably be fined[QUOTE="stevoqwerty"]

lol.. seriously? I thought children were taught to 911 in Kindergarten, did that change or something? At least15 years ago we were taught the importance ofdialing 911 in an emergency. Wow... just wow lol

I'm not from America and only know 911 when 9/11 happened.
I think 911 should be something easier like 910 or 909. If a little kid tries dialing 911, he/she would try to find the 11 button. :?ghoklebutteryou dial 9-1-1, not nine eleven :S
Reference to a Qu'ran verse I think, but don't take my word for it. You mean 9:11? "Yet if they repent and establish prayer and pay the alms, then they are your brothers in religion; and We detail, We explain, the signs for a people who know, [who] reflect. (9:11)" :?[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Well it's possible the terrorists picked that date for that reason...but yeah 9-1-1 has been an emergency number for a long long time.
