NOTE: I tried to look for previous threads that were the same or similar but the damn search function isn't working.

Anyway, did you enjoy the fourth Indiana jones film? The reaction to the movie is fairly one sided here on the internet, most agreeing it iscrappy movie. I thought it was fine, it had some questionable moments but overall it was decent and it still had the Indiana Jones formula. My own major problem with the movie was Shia but I was happy to let that slide since we got to see Indy again.

Your thoughts?

Did I think it was as good as the other movies? Not quite.

Did I think it was bad? Not really...aside from Shia and a few eye-rolling moments it was ok.

What I really don't understand is the rage behind how he survived some of the things he lives through in the movie as well as the alien thing, and to those things I say:

1. The movie is called "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"...so you should have already known aliens were going to figure into it somehow. Plus, It's funny that Indy has already found the Ark of the Covenant that melts people's faces off and the Holy Grail yet aliens are too far fetched?

2. The whole fridge thing may have been a little too over the top, but someone complaining about that clearly doesn't remember the other movies, I mean in the earlier movies he did things like jump out of a plane onto a snowy mountaintop on an inflatable raft and didn't get a scratch on him, he always survives things that would either severely hurt or kill real people.

*raised hand* I enjoyed it. WAY better than Temple of Doom, but Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade still beat it.

James Rolfe, aka AVGN actually has a resonable defense for this.
The Crystal Skulls were said to be Extra-Terrestrial. Hell, according to him, lots of educational programs covered on the matter before the film even released
that's true. The Crystal Skulls have been theorized to be of extra-terrestrial origin pretty much since they were discovered.

that said, I didn't really like the movie. Not the complete and brutal butchering that some people seem to think it was, but not on par with the original trilogy.

It was the only logical progression to the story. Bad guys Germans with Christian plot, Temple of Doom bad guys with Hindu plot, Nazis with Christian plot, and then of course the cold war with the Soviets sci-fy plot. "But it's sooo bad!"

I don't understand why people were so mad about the aliens. It's in the name of the film, what the hell were you expecting?

I'm the odd duck who says it was an okay movie. It had some serious flaws, but it was not without redeeming qualities.

It wasn't a bad movie per se, but it definitely had some bad moments, such as the vine swinging scene, and the whole extra dimension ending, I would say the movie was good and in some parts, great, until the ending. That just made the whole movie seem less special.

^ How I feel. I really don't mind the aliens plot (though it felt really underdeveloped). It's just the way Lucas (or Spielberg) went about doing some things. Raiders and Temple had a gritty feeling to them, realistic or not. Getting dragged behind a truck and rafting down a snowy mountain isn't quite as far-fetched getting blasted and tumbling around inside a fridge. If Indy had just hidden inside it while the blastwave detonated everything around him, MAYBE there would be less eye-rolling? The extra motion was unnecessary. Still doesn't make it any more realistic, but with the current fridge scene, they're not just asking you to suspend your disbelief, they're demanding you throw it away completely.

Plus, the family of gophers? Swinging on the vines!? Little things add up. Cate Blanchette wasn't as good a villain as someone like Belloc, and at least Mola Ram gave me nightmares as a kid. Her motives weren't as developed as Belloc, nor was she as crazy/interesting to watch as Mola Ram. I didn't mind Shia. I really didn't. Half of the movie was pretty damn good, but then it became a CGI-fest and I didn't think Karen Davis needed to be brought back at all. As a cameo, maybe.

It's better than a lot of modern action/adventure movies though. Raiders is one of my fav movies of all time (Temple was awesome in its own right), but KOCS plays out like mediocre fanfiction.

It's my second favorite Indy movie, probably like my 15th favorite movie of all time. It has a lot of stupid stuff, yes, but it's fun! It can't beat the Last Crusade, which I watch 4 times a year, but it's a good little movie in it's own right. Yeah, Shia's annoying, yeah, the nuke in a fridge doens't make sense, yeah, the swinging on vines was stupid. But I don't care. I enjoyed it all the way until the last 15 minutes, which were pretty bad to tell you the truth. I just love the 50's scene, the jungles, the waterfall, everything.

For me it goes

1. Last Crusade. I love biblical quests. Great movie, probably 5th or 6th best of all time.

2. Crystal Skull. Reasons stated above.

2. Raiders of Lost Ark. For some reason, I never watch it as often as the others (each of which I view multiple times annually), but it's tied for 2nd fave.

3. Temple of Doom. This one wasn't the globe trotting adventure I love, but it's probably my 20th favorite movie of all time, which isn't bad. It's just not on par with the rest.

I agree with that argument. I disagree (not that you said it) with the belief that nuking the fridge was bad. Vine swinging was hilariously bad (minus the hilarious bit), fridge nuking was hilariously awesome.

I only saw it once, and that was in theaters.

I thought it was pretty enjoyable, just that there wasn't any point in making it :?.

Did not enjoy. Thought it was horrible waste of talent all the way around.

It would have been better with no franchise connection.

It also would have been better to link the alien stuff with all the other myths Indy has encountered comsidering that this movie did something that wasn't necessary by trying to mesh the previous storylines.

I thought it was pretty terrible. And that really has nothing to do with the inclusion of aliens.

Yes, I liked it. I went in not expecting much so I was pleasantly surprised. Aside from the ending, I thought it was pretty good. Certainly not on the same level as the others though.
