Weird question, I know, but it popped into my mind after it happened to me a few days ago.

I had a sneaky nightmare (damn dreams, I hate them! Let me sleep in peace you busters!) in which I caused a car accident involving a bus full of people and caused the death of dozens. The meaning is simple: I'm (not so secretly) afraid of unwillingly harming others, the weird fact was that I woke up screaming so loud that I scared the bricks out of the neighborhood.

Did anything like that ever happen to you, to wake up screaming (or maybe crying, or the like?).

I've never woken up screaming but I once had a dream that freaked me out so bad I hid under the sheets at the ripe old age of 19. Seriously I was so freaking scared it wasn't funny.

Never actually screaming but I have woken up freaked out lots of times.

I've also woke up by my body twitching, which is pretty weird.

I don't really ever scream. Even in a scary situation of some kind, I'm usually very quiet and reserved. I once had a really scary nightmare, and my reaction was leaning forward and just staring into the darkness of my room with big eyes without saying a word, haha.

Not as I remember, but I have woken up several times scared s***less... It's been happening a lot more, recently...

I also think I had a near-death experience once... It was like, there was this light at the end of a tunnel, something like that. It's hard to describe. And it was blue...

I was having a nightmare one morning and my mom was shaking me to wake me up. I woke up in terror I started sceaming when I woke up and pushed myself into the corner of my bed. My eyes were open and everything but I was still screaming in terror.

I also woke myself up by crying in my sleep to this day I still dont knwo what I was dreaming about but I had tears running down my face.

My mom said I was yelling in my sleep the other morning. She said it was freaking her out.

Once, one time in my entire life have I ever woke up screaming and it happened not so long ago. It was a short, simple dream. I was walking down the downstairs hallway in my house and just entering the "office". It was just like real life, doing something I do everyday; going to the garage, grab a cold drink and head to use the computer. When I opened the door to the office, just as I walked in someone jumped out from behind the door at me. I woke up sweating, heart racing and actually screamed. It was so life like, that's why it was so scary because that could actually happen and I've thought of it many times before hand.

I woke up gasping when I dreampt something horrible like Oprah Winfrey turning into a hideous demon and was breathing poison all over the place and everyone was shriveling up like raisens. And then I heard a voice whimpering in the background "absolutly Oprah" for some reason. Actually it wasn't that horrible but it was funny so I just gasps for no reason.

Never outright screaming, but I've had times in the past where I've woken up with a jolt and was breathing heavily. Not exactly a pleasant experience, although fortunately I haven't had a dream like that in quite a while.

I woke up on the floor once :P and I think I woke up once and was pretty freaked out so I ended up having a kind of delayed scream but I have pretty good control over my dreams now so I hardly ever get nightmares as such.

About 8 years ago when I was a little innocent boy of the age of 7 I had a dream that relatives came over to the house and I wanted to stay in the room and play there but my mum told me to go bed...So I go upstairs to the toilet and I pull up the toilet seat so I can pee and then all I see hanging right over the water a huge thick hairy brown tarantula, I screamed as loud as I could in the dream then I just sat right up awake, sweating an gasping in my bed. Ever since then I've had a fear of spiders and I can't bear to be in the same room as a spider... Hell I couldn't even kill a spider in a game cause I've gotten so afraid of them at the time but now I just shout and scream at them in a game... IRL, I run as fast as I can :(

P.S I'm not sure if it even was a dream... it looked so real I thought its real, I still am to this day not sure, since I've never asked

Well thats mine 8)

Same here, I get that often.

But a few nights ago I woke up talking, like I was mid-word when I woke up. Though I don't remember what I was saying...

Only once in my life thus far, back when I was a weeee child. I dreamnt that a bee was flying towards my eye; my body was frozen to the ground in fear; it got closer and closer and when it was just about within striking distance, I awakened, got up, and screamed. Atleast nothing like that has happened again.

I don't really wake up screaming. It's more like my scream waking ME up. The dream that gets me to scream in my sleep is always the same: I hear mother calling for whatever reason(Dinner, cleaning, whatever..)from downstairs. IRL I of course always call back usually rather loud, yelling, asking what she wants. So this carries over to that dream of me thinking I hear mom calling, and I naturally yell back in my sleep, which wakes me up. Well awake in the middle of the night, I get pissed when I realize it's only around 2 o'clock and try to fall asleep again.
Not really a nightmare really. Nightmares very rarely make me wake up.

Dreams can be metaphorical. Your dream doesn't necessarily mean you're afraid of unwillingly harming others. It may be much more complicated than that. I have many nightmares maybe 1-3 a week. I never wake up screaming. I wake up startled, a quick jerk into waking, then I lay down again, but that's about it. Anyways as much as I don't like my nightmares apart of me does. It let's me experience the full spectrum of emotion. If I just had good dreams they wouldn't be as good without the bad ones.

What I don't like is fear. People are too swayed by it, and too easily controlled by it. It's one thing to be afraid. It's another to allow it to controll your behavior.

Not once. I never really have really bad nightmares anymore. As a kid I used to have pretty bad ones, yknow, can't go back to sleep etcetera. But from hearing from others it seems that mine are small talk.

Yup, you're right, dreams are metaphorical and they always hide deeper things behind apparently simple ones (come to think of it, my friends ask me to explain their dreams all the time). Unfortunately I don't remember anything else about my dream, so I have to go for the easy explanantion.
