I saw it for the first time last night and i really liked it cause I got into how you couldnt really trust anyone in the movie. Also Kurt Russel did what i have always said i would do if i was in a horror movie situation and burn down the whole building. Although I was a little ticked that even at the end they didnt decide that sticking together would have been a smart thing.

And yet despite being in just about everything, he's still only "the black guy in the movie".

It must suck being "that guy". Unless you really don't want fame or legions of fans, in which being "that guy" is probably pretty awesome.

The remake is much better than the original since the remake actually stays true to the original short story and has Kurt Russell.

dude, walking vegetables. I never even implied that I thought the first one was better. I didn't even call it "the original" but said there was another version, which was older.

Yes I did. One of the few horror movies from my childhood that remained on my mind for over a decade when I got to see it again. The script really isn't the best imo. The atmosphere of isolation and paranoia on the other hand, and how they have to stick together regardless, to fight The Thing to survive... Not to mention the special effects by Rob Bottin (!).

its awesome in so many ways, dont even know where to start. would call it the best survival horror movie ever made. the crazy norwegians in the beginning just makes it even more awesome! "its not a dog, its a thing!!!"

i even got the jacket Kurt Russel is using (exactly the same looks, just darker). yeah, norway is cold :D

One of the best. It is my second favorite Carpenter film and it definitely ranks among my top 15 horror films. It is the greatest remake ever and that is no small feat, considering the original is a classic in its own right.

I've never heard of anyone not liking this movie...other than the initial reaction back in 1982 of course.
