Anybody else disturbed by Disney suddenly owning the rights to the entire Marvel Universe? I sure the hell am. I'm not the biggest fan of Joe Quesada, but something tells me things are about to get a lot worse.

People who think a lot will change obviously haven't done that much research you guys know Disney also owns Miramax (Which releases all of Quentin Taratnino's movies and other independent films.) and Touchstone. They won't change anything for it would be a bad investment..Jazz_FanDisney "governs" over Miramax, Touchtone, Buena Vista, and non-Paramount Dreamworks productions... but with some of the people who posted outrage... they were all about the label. Most likely the same people who cry over brand-label lovers - same thing when you're a brand-label hater.
Just beccause Disney bought the business does not mean they are going to run it into the ground. There are already plenty of Disney comics put out under one of their other comic book businesses they own.

Spiderman and the Seven Dwarves in 3-D. It's gonna happen.
That sounds a lot better than some things I've been thinking of (Joe Jonas as Captain America).
NO. Joe Jonas as Thor, Nick Jonas as Nick Fury(they have the same first name, why not?)I will walk into every comic book store, and burn every copy.Hannah Montana is going to get her own comic book series... :|

So how do you feel about WB owning DC? Or the fact that Disney owns Miramax, Touchtone, and Buena Vista for years now? Would you rather see Marvel go through another bankruptcy or would you rather see them get greater financing not only in their print division but their production company as well?It sickens me, like I actually feel sick when I think about it. I'm a huge comic fan, and this makes me un-easy.

Those collaborations make sense, I can see Disney trying to make my comics more 'Family Friendly' or change it some how.

As for your accusations of fanboyism, well that's just not the case. I'm not one of the people out there crying that Joe Quesada ruined Spiderman or that Ed Brubaker had no right to kill Steve Rogers (and subsequently bring him back, "dead is dead," Joe?), I just have the feeling that Disney plans to install their own editor-in-chief, maybe the type of person with more business sense but less passion for the industry. Disney is profit driven and there certainly are unsavory options that would make Marvel comics more appealling to the masses, that is my main concern. Concerning bankruptcy, I don't think Marvel has been anywhere near the point of bankruptcy since they have begun peddling properties for bastardization left and right.

It's got to be better than spiderman 3.... (IMO of course)

I can't; I can't see paying $4 billion for a company, then saying "OK, we're here to change things."So how do you feel about WB owning DC? You dont know much about Disney if you think this, if you think Disney forces companies to make their films more "family friendly" then you should take a look at the films Miramax has released since it was acquired by Disneyyea im not even sure the next iron man movie will be good sence it will be done by disneyseker456They have already wrapped principal photography on Iron Man 2...

Marvel is their only stake in mainstream comic books, so making changes isn't out of the question. I'm sorry but I'm just not comfortable with Disney having massive influence over the future of the American comic industry.SaintLeonidas

You are asking the wrong group of people, Saje. To say ADHD is rampant here is an understatement.
This ADHD is only trumped by the overly dramatic reactions to events that rarely or never ever affect them in any way. As a comic book geek of the highest order I see nothing wrong with this deal. Marvel gets access to the Disney Money Bin, Pixar gets to work with Marvel and Marvel will probably stay as is as one of Disney's wholly-owned subsidiaries whose job is just to make Disney money.
I think Disney being the so-called Evil Empire you people say they are wouldn't be dumb enough to drop 4billion in cash and stock on a company with a successful business plan to just interfere with that plan. What I see happening is Disney using its marketing and business power in the media to promote Marvel as a brand that would rival that of Nike, Apple and Google.
So, people need to take a chill pill, calm down and worry about whether you will wake up in the morning. I swear some of these people give proper and true fanboys a bad name. I wonder how they'll react when Mrs. Butterworth suddenly merges with Aunt Jemima. I'm sure they'll think the world was about to end...for the thousandth time in the week.

You do understand that Time-Warner, the largest media conglomorate, full owns DC Comics and has since the 1960's. Yet, I think DC hasn't gone the way of the corporate stooge or has become nothing but one of the standard-bearers of the comic industry. What surprises me more about this Disney/Marvel deal is that it hadn't happened years ago when Marvel was actually cheaper to get.
You people either need to adjust to the changing landscape or just stop reading comic books altogether. Be glad that Marvel now has big pockets with lots of money backing it now. Before this deal Marvel pretty much leveraged it's top properties to gain access to financial backing to run its company and make its films. Now they don't need to do that.
The fact that the Pixar people are beyond excited about this deal and now being able to work with Marvel seem to have escaped the lunatics who have taken over the boards here and at CBR.
And there sure as hell are more threads beyond Exhibit H dedicated to the same topic.Exhibit AExhibit BExhibit CExhibit DExhibit EExhibit FExhibit GExhibit H

But not like it matters.... OH MY GOD!!! WE'RE going to die!!! Nooooo!!! That evil DIsney company stole my comic books!!! AHHHHH!!! ...Nerd_Man
The funny thing is that the writers at Marvel and even those not working for them are having a laugh at the expense of these very drama-queens predicting the end of comic books as we know it. Like these writers would suddenly become Disney writer-bots doing nothing but write the next Hannah Montana or some other teen-of-the-month show. Yeah, I can see Brubaker suddenly turning Criminal into the next Jonas Brothers vehicle or Millar turning Kick-Ass into something that's not NC-17.
I think it's the best thing for the two companies. The synchronicity is perfect. Disney makes great movies, but you need a subject to make the movies out of. Marvel has a library of [more than 5,000] characters. Certainly half of them would make great movies. These are colorful characters that are unique and have different backgrounds and you now have them available in your library. Disney now has access to all of that.Stan Lee'Nuff said?

I had said yesterday that I fully support this deal if it means the Jonas Brothers appearing on stage in AIM uniforms or Hannah Montana done up as M.O.D.A.M.I actually think that Disney should check out the titles not included in Marvel-616, Marvel ultimates and such. Marvel bought the rights to all Ultraverse Comics characters and one title I think would translate well into film is Prime.
Actually, the new Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers ongoing is something that I would LOVE to see Pixar take a swing at; that could be truly spectacular and seems like a solid fit for their aesthetic.I actually think that Disney should check out the titles not included in Marvel-616, Marvel ultimates and such. Meh, Dont care much for marvel. Just as long as they keep their grubby lil hands off of DC Comics, Im A-OK :DII_Seraphim_II
Time-Warner already beat Disney to that punch.
Anyone who is afraid that this will somehow wind up with Ironman making cameo appearances on Playhouse Disney, or the X-Men starting up a high school rock band on a brand new Disney TV series know nothing about Disney's corporate structure. Disney does not just produce children's entertainment. The Disney brand is but one of the many brandnames they go by. You may also know Disney by some of their other names like ESPN, Touchstone Pictures, Miramax Films, and Hollywood Pictures.
So you see, Disney does not slap Mickey Mouse onto everything they own. They only do that when something gets released by the Disney studio. All that's going to come from this new acquisition is that Disney will now be leeching off of all of Marvel's profits and they get the ability to make movies with Marvel characters (meaning the only people who will now be making Marvel superhero movies are Disney studios like Miramax or Touchstone (and really Touchstone isn't an actual studio but just a name Disney uses when they release an R-rated or risque PG-13 film)). This also expands their mulitimedia empire into comic books which was an area they were previously lacking in.
It's business pure and simple. You guys won't notice any change in Marvel unless you're an investor or work for them.
