Is District 9 the best film of the year? Absolutely not. Is it one of my favorite 2009 films so far? ONE of them. I rank it somewhere in my favorite films of the year, but THE best films of the year for me are still by far Up and (500) Days of Summer.

Is it the best film of the year? Part of me would say if I hadn't already seen The Hurt Locker. Does it have a chance to get Oscar nomination for Best Picture? I say yes, especially since nominations were increased from 5 to 10. I see this film becoming like a dark horse pick that could gain momentum in the end of the year if the crop of award-worthy films are weak.
