I was just curious 'cause I'm an Atheist and I happen to believe that there has to be other planets out there with life on it. Perhaps life similar to us.

Whenever I start thinking about this, I start to wonder what a Christian's take on the matter might be.

Do you believe that God only created earth, and that everything else out there is just there for decoration? I mean, it's like infinite out there, yo!

Given the size of the universe and potential number of planets, I find it extremely unlikely that there isn't other life out there.

I remember the Pope had announced that it is very possible that god would have made life on other planets.

I believe God probably made life else where as well. But most likely not in his image like we are.

Jesus goes to other planets and dies too (only for the dominant form of life and not the other billion species)

I once heard it said "Chrisitanity is hte only religion in which extra terrestial life poses a problem" and I just don't see that. I am particularly skeptical of aliens existing and won't believe they do till I have some good reason to believe they exist, but if such life should exist, so be it.

I'm not a Christian but I believe in God. And I definitely believe there's Extraterrestrial Life. Lots and lots of it in fact. Frankly if you don't you're an idiot. Unless you're a religious guy that thinks the universe was created specifically for us.

That would contradict Christianity, it would make more sense to say if aliens did exist, prophets were sent to proclaim Christ crucified.

I never believed that statement due to the fact that Judaism and Islam all have the same God as Christianity and have the same basic theology. It doesn't differ until Christianity and Islam each found their Messiah, and even then the basics like Old Testament teachings that humanity being fallen creations of God and the other stuff that adds up to humanity being "God's favorite creation" (or whatever the basis is) are still a common belief aong the 3.

only the deep seeded religious christians would be so closed minded to believe there isnt life out there, like they already believe in something they cant prove exist so why not believe in aliens.

do you know how hypocritical your post is? You won't believe in aliens until there is significant evidence, but you believe in God based purely on fairy tales in a 2000 year old book and faith.

thats like me saying i believe in aliens because i read war of the worlds.

As a Christian I believe the possibility of intelligent life outside of this planet to be conceivable. As for what you say about everything else being "decoration," I find this also to be conceivable. However, I would not claim that the purpose of everything else to be merely that.

The funny thing is people would have me believe in aliens (whom we have no evidence of their existence at all except an assumption intelligent life must have neccesarily developed in the universe) but then tell me I can't believe in God based on the Historicity of the Ressurection of Christ and Philosophical reasons, Morality and logic. So is it hypocrticial? Yes, but not for me.

So the Bible is heresy then? No sorry thats not how early Christianity operated.

"Keep to the traditions given to you by word of mouth or by letter" I seem to recall paul say, as well as I remember him instating Bishops, Priests and Deacons.

well im just pointing out how flawed your logic is, what you believe doesn't matter to me. but i would argue theres evidence that aliens could exist, in that even on earth life persists in extreme conditions, and with the size of the universe, it wouldn't be a leap of faith to say there is probably some sort of life out there.

I missed when my logic was shown flawed. You merely told me I am hypocritical for not accepting the existence of aliens (whom I have no good reason and or evidence to believe in) and instead accept Christianity (which I do think I have good reasons for accepting, Philosophically and Historically).

what is the point of arguing with you? you just run away every time i hand you your ass in a metaphysical argument.

my point is you don't get to just make shyt up as you go along but i'm not wasting my effort for the umpteenth time so forget it.

well theres a difference between acknowledging that Jesus existed, and believing that he was born to a virgin, turned water to wine, walked on water, died on the cross and was ressurected 3 days later, that snakes talk, the the earth is 6,000 years old, that Noah put 2 of every species on the planet into his boat, that if you don't believe that God exists you will go to an eternal hell. I can admit that Jesus is was likely a real historical figure, and that he was a good man, but i see know logical evidence to believe the rest.

Speaking as an agnostic it would be really difficult to believe that there isn't some other form of life on other planets. Keep in mind this could also be things like micro-organisms or other things of the nature. Intelligent life is where things get dicey because there isn't exactly a clear cut definition for what is 'intelligent' and what isn't.

I think only the fundamentalist Christians are the only ones who don't believe there is, and they are the minoirty among Christians (but they tend to be the most vocal unfortunately). I definately believe thta there is intelligent life out there, I look out at the night sky and I simply am awed by how vast the uninverse is, to think that we are the only ones is silly, and IMO depressing.

I like to believe that we share the world with others, and perhaps some day we will meet them (I think eventually some day we will) and we can learn from each other. What's intersting is if you read the Koran it talks about there being several other worlds like ours with other life that God created, and that we are a favored one.

I am not a Muslim but I read all the Holy books because I find you can learn alot from them without being part of that religion. So yes, I honestly believe God made other life forms. However that being said I'm not one of these History Channel freaks who thinks aliens had sex with cave people and create natural disasters. Or whatever the hell it is they are saying, that stuff is made by people with too much time on their hands lol.

lol I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. The History Channel isn't about History anymore, just like Discovery Channel isn't about science or how Fox News isn't about fair and balanced. It's all lies.

And God hasn't always used prophets, sometimes he "guided" people, it's hard to explain but I believe God does help people just in different ways. God doesn't come out the sky and yell "go do this" he does it more sublety, but you always have the choice to listen to it or not.

It's so complex but simple at the same time, it's hard to explain lol.

People have been saying it's the end times since forever. It's not for us to know, it's for God to know. I just continue to live my life the best I can and I don't worry about it. That's all we are supposed to do.

And God hasn't always used prophets, sometimes he "guided" people, it's hard to explain but I believe God does help people just in different ways. God doesn't come out the sky and yell "go do this" he does it more sublety, but you always have the choice to listen to it or not.

It's so complex but simple at the same time, it's hard to explain lol.

im not worried. but everything i see games, movies or any kinda media points to end times. and guess what in the bible it says everyone would be talking about the END in end times.. games like the witcher, assassins creed series, and even yakuza games had some hints!

People have been saying it's the end times since forever. It's not for us to know, it's for God to know. I just continue to live my life the best I can and I don't worry about it. That's all we are supposed to do.

true true. i live life to the fullest everyday cause anything could happen but im hoping for something big in our lifetime.

well im just pointing out how flawed your logic is, what you believe doesn't matter to me. but i would argue theres evidence that aliens could exist, in that even on earth life persists in extreme conditions, and with the size of the universe, it wouldn't be a leap of faith to say there is probably some sort of life out there.

I missed when my logic was shown flawed. You merely told me I am hypocritical for not accepting the existence of aliens (whom I have no good reason and or evidence to believe in) and instead accept Christianity (which I do think I have good reasons for accepting, Philosophically and Historically).

what about rationaly? talking snakes? flying angels? pain through birth because a girl ate an apple? walking on water? you put your faith into this garbage but you dont think out of how vast the universe is that its quite possible, mathmatically, that other life forms exist out there?

Millions, probably billions of planets and only one with life? That would be a waste of finger snapping things into existence.

There are a billion or two Christians on this planet, do you seriously expect that they'll have a uniform viewpoint on something like the issue of extraterresials?

Well some of those things are symbolic, they could be describing real things in a different way. Although some if it isn't meant to be taken literally, and taken as a story.

Like talking snakes isn't in the Torah (the origional Bible), in fact Genises even starts off with "Hayo hayah pa'am" which in Hebrew means "Once upon a Time".

And many things in genises is taken from The Epic of Gelgamesh. Doesn't mean these events didn't happen, just that over time people told of them orally and over the years people added in their own ideas or imaginative imagrey to them.

It's like if your a detective who is questioning witnesses on a crime, each witness will say very different things even though they all saw the same event, or the experiment where people stand in a circle and they whisper a phrase in the persons ear, and by the end the phrase is very different from the origional.
