Here where i live, criminals have tv, internet, pc. They can do free education and have good cells to be in. Are we too nice to criminals today, or are we helping them for a second chance when they get out?

LOL! Sorry but how you said it really made me laugh
I think we're way too nice....people shouldn't want to go to prison, but most criminals i've talked to (my dad's a lawyer, it's not like i walk around interviewing convicts) really just think of it as free room and board for a while. Here where i live, criminals have tv, internet, pc. Prison is not meant to be a punishment, but a rehabilitation centre. Having access to television and internet is a little much to be honest. Criminals aren't put in jail to be "punished," but to be given the idea that what they did was wrong, and to turn them into productive members of society. You can't do that unless you give them access to some resources that allow them to learn new skills and grow as individuals.
Not all prisoners have access to TV and internet...For some reason those prison chat sites are still around.Prison is not meant to be a punishment, but a rehabilitation centre. How do you know that? 99% of the people who say this sort of thing have never even set foot in a prison. Here where i live, criminals have tv, internet, pc. It really depends on where the prison is located...i think criminals should suffer..they should regret their actions and wish to never do them again..
I still think we should be giving out lashes instead of prison sentences that are less than 3 months in duration. Therefore this would apply to petty crimes
it sounds decent when you list off the few things they get in a favorable light. However when you factor in that they get a limited time with all of those things (besides the tiny cell) if they get any time at all that is and you factor in the showers and the inmates they have to live with (who I hear are not the nicest people) and the fact that they have to do whatever they are told to do I would say they do not have it so easy. Here where i live, criminals have tv, internet, pc. not compared to the population, but all the prisons are full. There are ques to get in prison hereEver see the movie "Lets Go To Prison!"..nevermind but no being in a place with other murderer's, phychopaths, and drug dealers, and others of sorts doesn't sound to easy or fun.

Well if someone is going to be released, I think it's only reasonable to try to minimize the damage that prison will cause them. When people are in prison for crimes relating to drugs and poverty, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to say, "here's what we're gonna do...we're gonna **** you up even more, then release you back into society in 7 years." If they're in an even sorrier and desperate state when they get out, then what good did it do to imprison them in the first place? All you've done is put them with other criminals who'll teach them how to be better at crime when they're released.
So yeah...if giving criminals educational opportunities helps them to change their lives, then do it.
Also when it comes to stuff like entertainment and recreation, that's far less "necessary". But you have to understand that prison is extremely dangerous for both the guards and the inmates. And bored violent felons are more likely to say "I think I'll go stab a dude". If giving them limited entertainment opportunities keeps them from acting out, then do it.
in some respects yes.
I definately find it amusing/ironic that criminals seem to have better fundamental "rights" (health, dental, education, etc) than free people do.
Say what you want, but the fact that rapists, murderers, and other criminals have better healthcare than I do just makes me sad.
go kill someone then :roll:in some respects yes.

haha hmmmmmmmm *looks around*
seriously, its just kinda funny when you think about it: between myself getting stabbed on the street, and a prisoner getting shanked...the prisoner is going to get the better deal.

back off man, he's from THE STREETS :P
haha yea, but with the slew of low-level posters that have suddenly emerged and the troubles they bring to forums, ive decided to A.) overlook stuff I'd give a hard time about to higher level posters, and B.) not make things personal.
but yea I had something all typed out, even had a picture, ready to go for that "From the streets" comment but then thought better ofi t.
I never get why people think the job of prisions should be to simply pnush people. Sure you can make a prisoner stay in a windowless 6 by 6 cell for 'n' years, but I bet when they get out they won't be thinking of how they can become productive members of society
Actually prison is a form of criminal punishment. It is not meant to heal criminals, it is meant to deter people from committing crimes. Rehabilitation is more in corrections, rehab facilities, etc... And since it is a way of punishment, I have to disagree with you about the extra commodities.Prison is not meant to be a punishment, but a rehabilitation centre. Having access to television and internet is a little much to be honest. Criminals aren't put in jail to be "punished," but to be given the idea that what they did was wrong, and to turn them into productive members of society.
