I am 15, and unfourtunately, they have every right in the world. I agree with my parents religion but I have to wonder what makes you an atheist?

No they don't. People, including children, should be able to choose whatever religion they want to, or none at all.

No, they can encourage a particular religion, but to force it is just unfair and immoral and most religions (except Jehovah's Witnesses  ) discourage forcing your religion on someone, if they are made to believe something, they won't truely believe it, and they will begin to resent the religion that was forced upon them. So all they should really be able to do is suggest that you follow their beliefs.

There is no force involved. You helped your sister. And? Mom doesn't like atheism. And? No one can force a belief.:|

I think parents have the right to teach a child about their religion at a young age, but once the child hits adolescence, the child should be able to choose for themselves.

ok im 15 and my mom made my help put up a tent for my sister at vacation bible school, well after talking with her i told her about me being atheist and she said she dosent like this atheist stuff. So yea do parent have the right to force a religion on a child?

and if she does have the right just out of curiosity do thay also have the right to force a sexuality??

H8sMikeMoore

you're pretty much your parents property until you're 18

That still doesnt give parents the right to dictate what their children believe/feel.

property = ownership. parents = masters.

children are the parents responsibility. not property.

They have the right to try and teach you what they believe and you have the right to believe what you want.

They have the right to teach you whatever they want until you are an adult. You have the right to not believe what they say, but until you are grown and out of their house, you are under their rules, and they can push as much or as little as they want.

It's only a lie in your opinion.:| To them, it's real. To them, teaching their kids religion is no different than teaching them the laws of biology. Yes, they have the right, whether you think it's a lie or not.

I wasn't talking about religion in general, I was talking about the really big lies like young earth creationism, white/black supremacism, blow yourself up and be a martyr for islam, that sort of thing.

They can't teach them to break the law, of course, but they can teach them YEC or anything else that is permissible. When the kid grows up and enters the world, he'll see the world for what it is and will be able to choose if he wants to believe his parents or someone else. The rights will be put on him.

Tell her that you can call/consider me a Catholic/Christian all you want but that doesn't mean I will believe in God. That is ALL you have to say. I did that with my parents and now they understand that they can't force a religion on me. I do believe in God but I also believe that all you have tp do is be a good person in life to reach salvation. The ceremonial bullcrap is just crap people invented to show praise. Why not show praise in believing? It's called FAITH. I will never understand why my parents tried to force all this ceremonial crap on me but I really do regret all the time I wasted in a church when I could be out with my friends or something.

In the case of a 15 year old...no. You're old enough to think for yourself.
