Do you? I have always wondered that. A couple of girls from exchange this year saw me kissing a couple of girls andthey told everyone i was cheating on my (now former) girlfriend. We use to do that, men greet woman with a kiss on the cheek. So do girls on girls and some guy on some guys. Your parents/sisters/brothers/anyone.

Only if they wanna get punched.

America is a very "no touchy" culture. We have a personal space radius of about five feet; anybody gets within that radius and we begin to get uncomfortable. Touching is generally viewed as an intimate thing here and kissing is reserved for loving couples.

nope not here. instead you would be immediatlybe called gay while the women around try to tell the guy you just kissed that you don't know bette because you have a different culture, and that is just a best case scenario.

pretty much, this...our society is very hands off...even if you look at someone for too long they get agitated and are ready to verbally/physically abuse you.

No we dont do that. Even a hug is too much sometimes.

At our school, they wont let us hug or kiss, or we can be SUSPENDED. Its all the media swine flu scare. Its pathetic, I never hesistate to hug my female friends, though, that is just pathetic....

No, we shake hands. We don't like to spread germs so easily and people suggest now we should bow like the Japanese or imvisible handshakes.

Nobody in America that I know does it, but when I was in portugal for 20 days everyone did it and I thought it was great. It felt like such a comfortable, natural way to greet people.

No. A "hello" or a handshake is the normal thing to do. Kissing on the cheek is usually only done between family members.

It becomes more typical here the older you are. I really have no idea what uncivilized part of the US the people in this thread are from, but it is *not* an uncommon thing here.

You realize it' pretty hard for us humans to kiss someone's cheek when they're kissing ours, right? And by pretty hard i mean biologically impossible.

I live in America and it's customary to shake hands. I also lived in Mexico before and it's customary to shake hands with the males, and a kiss on the cheek with females. That's if you know the woman. Like if she's a relative or friend.

It's not necessarily a hand shake. We like slap each others hands, and immediately after that, is a fist bump. That's what I do with my family.

Doing that with family is different than meeting someone for the first time and doing it.

In both my home country AND in the U.S., you'd probably get slugged for doing that. Which isa totally acceptable response.

The general greeting here in the U.S. is to stick your hands down the pants of the person you're meeting.

My family and I are like 100% Dutch. I always greet my friends/family with a kiss on the cheek. I thought that's what everyone does...or a handshake which I see a lot.
