Definitely not something you do in America. Handshakes or hugs for close friends. Kisses are right out!

I'm American (Hispanic background) and it's a handshake with guys, kisses on the cheeks for the girls.
In my family it's always a kiss for females and a hug/handshake for the males. Though when I was younger my uncles would give me a kiss on the cheek (not pervert like), so it's definitely an age thing. With friends however, I don't know anyone that greets eachother with a kiss. Hugs if girl or handshake/"hello" if guy.
I greet my Mexican family with a kiss on the cheeks. Only the women though, for the men its a handshake.TauruslinkSame here for my family but with Friends its a handshake for the guys and hugs for the women. Strangers they get nothing, just a verbal "Hi"
The complexity of a handshake is also a good indicator of "douchbagginess".Nope, most American's like space. Here we do handshakes that range from simple to intricate, the more intricate the handshake the better you know the person.
