2. Mind your own business.

With that said I have bigger stuff to worry about...

This all reminds me of the debates over whether interracial marriage should be allowed. Both cases seem very similar.

You guys aren't even allowed to smoke pot.

It's better that way. Most people don't know what's good for them. In fact not only should pot smoking be banned world wide but so should cigarettes smoking. Just what I think anyways.

There is absolutely nothing stopping gays from performing a ceremony and calling it marriage.

SIapshot

Should they be afforded the same legal protection?

Such as?

inheritance, power-of-attorney, and guardianship rights, health benefits, pension benefits, same tax benefits as other married couples, reductions and benefits from most insurance companies as well as other companies, etc

I think they mean in the eyes of the guvmint.

Why should that matter?

Equality! You know, that old thing.

Equality? How are they not equal? Because they don't get material benefits? A lot of companies offer benefits to domestic partners, they are FREE to do so. A lot of companies don't offer any benefits to anybody regardless of marriage, and they are FREE to do so.

Tax advantages, inheritance stuff, becoming joint guardians of any children, joint ownership of houses etc, establishing eachother as "family" for all sorts of things (hospital visits is the first thing that pops to mind for some reason)

You know. That kind of thing. Why should heterosexuals get that and not gays?

I can leave my inheritance to anybody I want, the first three are easily rectified, and health and pension benefits are private matters that private companies either give or don't give.

good so you wont be telling us to let gay marriage happen?

personally i'm not interested in what you do with your life either way. but if it were put to a vote, i would vote to permit gay marriage because to not allow it is discriminatory imo.

Then the entire country is not equal. I do not get SSI because I am not disabled. There are criteria for getting benefits, and if you don't meet that criteria then I guess we are not all equal.

I think that gay marriage should be allowed. I mean, if one wants to declare one's devotion to another, why should one be restricted to declaring it only to a person of the opposite sex?

well gay marriage is very controversial and some people view it as immoral and against their religeon, it should be the buisnesses right to provide benefits to whomever they want

so if i had a company that you worked for and i only allowed health benefits for a person's partner if they were gay and not for my hetersexual employees do you really think i would not be sued for discrimination? c'mon.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to argue...

A nice easy way to clear it up! please finish this sentence: Gay couples should not be afforded the same rights as straight couples because...

Haha, what? Seriously? There are actually people saying "no"?. Holy jebus.. Why in the hell wouldn't you accept gay marriage? Isn't it up to the ones getting married if they want to be married or not? I have no interest, whatsoever, in which sex marries which, and it really saddens me that some people do.

FragStains

I think it's funny that while you don't care who marries who...you DO care about why other people do care about who marries who.

I care about freedom. And I care about people who think everyone shouldn't have freedom. I hate them.

I do not support, condone, or even acknowledge homosexual marriages... but I still respect other beliefs and do not feel I have the right to stop them if the law allows. I will be voting pro-marriage if given the opportunity however. ...that almost sounds like a contradiction. Oh well.

Don't get worked up about it. You're naturally going to get a bunch of ignorant "people" on a forum where maybe 50% is under 16 years old. I'll bet you most who are against it are so because they think it's "gross." Just like as a kid you didn't think your parents would ever have sex because it was "gross." Oh well, all we can hope for is that they'll learn in time.

Surely even if it is against your religious beliefs, they should be afforded equality in the eyes of the law.

I'd vote against it if given the oppritunity which is what makes America great :P This isn't a matter of equality but morality.

I don't really care, but I would like to know why you don't support them.

It's simply a perversion of what is morally right... though I do realize not everyone has the same morality I hold dear.

Why can't you just leave those goups alone? It's not like they come after you to take away your rights.

They are trying to take away my rights to tell them they are wrong for doing so... That sounds slightly unconstitutional if I say so myself.

btw, I'd have no problem at all spending the rest of my life in prison for preaching against homosexuality if that ever comes about like I know has happened in other countries...
