I hate it when I use the word queer and people give me crap about it. They assume I mean homosexual. They should help themselves to a dictionary sometime. I mean strange, odd. I can see why people call homosexuals queers. It is pretty odd or strange to straight people. Queer means strange or eccentric& queers means strangers or eccentrics.
It all depends on how you use the word gay Homsexuals are stereotyped as being very sissy like and behave like screwballs. So if you say "HEY! stop being gay I interpret that as Stop acting like Richard Simmons or Christopher Lowel.

What the definition of the word may be, using queer in the modern day is going to have the same reaction that ni**ardly (petty or reluctant in giving or spending) does, despite the fact there is nothing offensive within the definition of the word, you should know that. When someone says that movie was gay unless it was Brokeback Mountain it just means they didn't like it. You can read into that how ever you want, but you can't say people use it incorrectly...it's slang so it's used in the proper fashion.
Gay is not a complicated word.
