Almost everything needs to be changed at the high school level and every grade below. I can not understand these SOLs. Why teach the students the basics. Teach at or above grade level and the students should be able to pass this test with flying colors. Basic math should be mastered by 5th grade. I understand that some students will need more time to master the subject material. But it won't be that many if the expectations are set to achieve and not just repeat the same stuff year after year.

Better teachers and a better curriculum are a good place to start. The students have to do the work and they need to feel and know that at the end of all this work is a good place for them. Kids only do what is expected of them. Parents need to be more engaged in this part of their children's life. If the expectation starts at home, school will be an extension.

I went to a high school where the only electives were ROP (classes), music/band, art, and acting... -_- It wasn't until after I graduation they decided to get a video game design class. I was so mad. :x
