they actually are. but i dont think they are exactly like movie/game zombies (brain hungry). More just people who cant think for themselves and just do whats ordered. Its a voodoo tradition thing to make slaves. they get a prisoner or someone similar, give them some poison and burry them. then revive them some hours later, which then they are zombies, google it.FatChuwawa

There are (or were) zombies in Haiti, created by drugging the victim with puffer fish toxin, then burying them "alive." When the victim "resurrects," they dig themselves out of their own grave.

For more info, I'd check out the movie "The Serpent and the Rainbow." It's supposedly based on actual events (and it's a pretty good movie, too).
