My belief wasn't born of fear. Mine was from love of life. Anyone that believes in God has doubt and anyone that says they don't has doubt that there could be.

As like your quote says beleif is fallible...I believe my girlfriend is cheating. I believe my mother and father are great people. I beleive I can do it if I put my mind to it etc.

You said every Atheist is a believer on their death bed. That means you feel people believe out of fear. I agree with you.

I certainly believe in a God, or some variety of transcendent authority. I like how Voltaire put it:

"Morality is everywhere the same for all men, therefore it comes from God; sects differ, therefore they are the work of men."

Of course, he also said

"Every sensible man, every honorable man, must hold the Christian sect in horror."

A lot of atheists and agnostics wouldn't disagree with you there.

Personally, I don't believe in a god but I don't disbelieve in a god. I used to be a very strict Christian but I've abandoned my Christian beliefs simply because I think it is presumptious to believe in a god to the point where I would have to create my own god in order for it to exist and to confirm my beliefs and morality. I still go to church virtually every week but I still don't believe a lot of what I recite. If people believe in a god out of a necessity and do it in good cause, I have no problem with it, but I don't like it when people corrupt the name of any god, pagan or not, for their own self-serving needs.

Well, as far as the theory goes, all the matter was there, all condensed upon a single point.

It must have been a very massive point. (I'm a Christian but my point is not to argue but to understand the theory more just in case you guys are wondering.) Why would it decompose?

In a nutshell, the universe is said have a Big Bang and once the universe gets really big it compresses into itself. There is then another Big Bang. The process is repeated infinitely into the future and past. The problem with the theory that I see is that each time there would be a loss of energy. Do this enough times and the universe would not have enough energy to exist. I can't believe people would believe this but not in God... I wonder which requires more faith?...

Indeed it would be massive, though not in the sense of size, only in the sense that all the mass would be at that point. So, yeah. That's just semantics there...

Impossible to say for sure what the size of the point was, but it was likely relatively small. I compare a neutron star. It's a star that is so densely packed with mass that a spoonful would weigh several tons. This helps me to visualize the state of the matter, all fixed on one point.

I've only heard one reference to it being a continuous cycle, and even then, such a notion barely qualifies as a hypothesis. No educated person is claiming that it works that way, to the best of my knowledge.

Wait I think I said that wrong then. In my original post I meant to say the universe.

mindstorm

The Big Bang theory covers everything in the universe so you were not wrong.

But then there was only space. Where did the molecules come from? (atoms, molecules, particles, w/e the smallest matter is. I don't remember the term and I'm not in school right now so Idc. :P)

I've only heard one reference to it being a continuous cycle, and even then, such a notion barely qualifies as a hypothesis. No educated person is claiming that it works that way, to the best of my knowledge.

Sorry if I made it sound like it was widely accepted. I have known of several on here to believe it to be true however.

Doesn't make particularly much sense to me. There would need to be a massive gravitational force in order to draw all the matter in the universe back to the single point after the universe stops expanding, if it stops expanding.

I hear you. I believe thats the why the Bible purposefully refers to God as the Alpha and Omega so many times.

I just do not see matter doing something as complex as that.

I believe in God because that's how I was raised and it's been along the lines of my family for generations.

I believe in something. I haven't a clue what, but there is just too much around us for this to be one big accident. I don't believe in most major religions, with the exception of Buddism, but I just need more "proof" if you will, to make a more educated decision.

I could be wrong, but I think I heard some famous antitheist (maybe Richard "Dicky" Dawkins) support the idea. . . .
