Whoever is complimenting your $20 pants knows nothing about fashion. Let me guess. You buy Dickies. All of Kohls stuff is generic and ugly in my opinion. They got those shirts with stupid sayings like "I live in my own world". I like my stuff to be a little more original and top quality but hey, it's your money and you can spend it anyway you like.

Hahahahahahahah, no. I don't buy shirts with flame designs on them. And no I don't buy Dickies, you'd be surprised at how comfortable and how good looking some pants are from the Mossimo brand. And anyone who thinks that originality comes from paying extra money not only knows **** about fashion buy about self-confidence.

FYI I got the confidence to wear target and Kohls stuff but it just doesn't suit me. If you feel like you look awesome in your $20 gear then more power to you. I just really dislike it. It just so happens that brands like Ralph Lauren, Zegna, and Lacoste appeals to me. I like the classy/sporty look they got going and thats why I buy it. I guess if you want some regular plain 'ol blue denim then whatever dude, buy your generic jeans from wal-mart.
By the way, not all my stuff is expensive. I buy at GAP and Bannana Republic which is cheap and still looks fantastic.
Edit: Someone above mentioned H&M which is also cheap and looks great. Kudos smart shopper.

Clothes are fashionable basically because people say so. That's about all there is to it.

Like I said. It's about how you want to spend your money. Fashion is like a hobby to me and I invest in it like other people do in video games, computers, etc. To me all those things are the same.

How so?
I'm tired of seeing all the bigotry in threads about fashion.
To some people all they see is an expensive price tag for a useless piece of fabrique and decides to flame people who'd spend $100, $200 or $500 on a pair of jeans. But guess what, value varies from person to person. Just because 'most' people don't buy expesive cloths, doesn't mean it's wrong for people to do so.
This goes for everything that is bought with money.
Some people think it's crazy that $250,000+ cars sell, and others who has a passion for the automobile don't see anything wrong with it.
Same thing happened with videogames not too long ago. Nongamers always wondered why gamers spent so much money and spent so much time playing video games. You remember, the people who said stuff like 'go get some sun' and stuff like that.
And I'm not pointing my finger at anyone who doesn't spend a lot of money on cloths. I'm directing my post to people who thinks that buying expensive clothes causes a person to fall a rank on the social darwinism scale.
I have a $20 outfit :P
Shirt: Free, because it didn't have a price tag
Jeans: Originally $60, reduced to $10 because it was missing a button
Shoes: $75 Pumas, reduced, and then on sale for $10
I don't spend much on clothes at all. I can put my money to better use.

No, you just made me laugh, because you feel very strong about the whole "staying fashionable" thing. "Kudos smart shopper" was funny as well. Not trying to be sarcastic. >_>

Nice speech.
It makes sense too. I don't judge people that spend a lot on clothes (like my friends), I just think it's little excessive for me to spend so much, since I don't care one way or the other. my friends think I'm crazy for how much I'm going to spending on games.

If you're buying $500 jeans, I think it's almost a verifiable fact that you're quite simply not getting what you're paying for. The biggest determinant of whether or not something more expensive is a good buy is whether the extra money it costs provides an extra amount of benefit.

I couldnt agree more.
A few people I know call me stupid for buying $90 Ed Hardy t-shirts. They just cant get into their thick heads that its my money and Im the one wearing the shirts, not them. When it comes to fashion, its something that means a lot to me because I want to look good when I go out, and not look like I just rolled out of bed and left the house like that. :?
I spend next to nothing on my clothing (except for shoes, which I wouldn't mind spending alot of money on). Why should I, if the clothing I have fits fine and feels good. If I'm going some place special I have a nice pair just for that, but it's only 1 pair.
Then again, I never was a fashion-minded guy, I prefer to devote my energies to something more productive.
I wouldn't mind a comfy pair of shoes for school, any recommendations would be appreciated, I suck at buying shoes.

Well, then tell me, what does one get out of a pair of $500 jeans that one does not get from a cheaper pair?
(other than a lighter wallet and the knowledge that you just bought a $500 pair of jeans, that is)
I buy 3-packs of Hanes boxer briefs
Polos and Tshirts whenever they go on sale
Shorts, well, I need big and tall so they get kinda pricey. But I still wear shorts ive had for like five years.
I have a boatload of clothes, but I am too big to wear them now. I am losing weigh, though, and gradualling being able to fit into these nice new clothes I havent worn yet is really cool.
i dont buy expesinve clothes since i cant get a job (too young) and my parents pretty much restrict me to kohls/target/wally world and the like. but once im on my own ill probably still not buy expensive clothes. ill probably just stick to online for t-shirts and get shorts, jeans, and chucks at any random store.

A state of mind.
My stuff is ridiculously expensive and some of it is custom made to order. But you can't go cheap when it comes to alternative, real metal, real spikes, and so many chains you walk like the ghost of Marley.
I buy somewhat expensive clothes. Most of my jeans are about 50 bucks.. I have a pair that were 90. Most of my polo's are about 40 bucks.. I have two 85 dollar polos.
I like to buy name brand... it's just better.
I got polo brand polo shirts, polo boots, nike casual shoes, american eagle and abercrombie polo shirts, american eagle and abercrombie tee shirts, american eagle abercrombie and lucky jeans, calvin klein underwear, more name brand button down dress shirts, etc.
