For me I think that the word Drug is very miss-leading. It can apply to something that dulls your senses, lowers your inhibitions, and decreases your perception and intelligence. Such as Alcohol, Heroin, or Crystal Meth.
On the other hand it can also apply to something that increases creativity, insight, makes you hallucinate, or forces you to examine your own consciousness. Such as Mushrooms, Cacti, or LSD.
Moreso drugs can apply to anti-psychotics which make the mind rigid. Mostly man made pharmaceutical drugs given to children and adults alike.
Finally drugs can also apply to a substance that speeds up your heart rate and gives a temporary surge of energy. Including Coca Cola, or Tea and Coffee.
I think that taking drugs like Alcohol Heroin and Meth can easily be considered as being unethical, especially if abused. It's much easier to sympathise with people who use energy increasing drugs. Hallucinogenics are hard for other people to understand but I don't think that they are a bad thing. The most unethical practice however I think is giving anti-psychotic drugs liberally to children.
I also think that Hallucinogenics can have a positive effect on a society that possesses a culture that knows how to use them responsibly. However drugs like Alcohol Heroin and Meth always have a damaging effect on any society they are introduced to.
In fact I think that it is quite ignorant and uninformed for a person to suggest that Drugs are simply "bad" (hmkay). They are as much a phenomenon in this society as Music, Sex, or even War, and need to be treated separately and backed up by research.
