As of August 2007, Counter-Strike is still the most widely played online first-person shooter in the world. In 2002 there were over 30,000 populated Counter-Strike servers on the Internet (second place was Unreal Tournament with about 9,800). In 2004, GameSpy statistics showed over 85,000 players simultaneously playing Counter-Strike at any point in time, and in 2006, Steam regularly shows over 200,000 players for Counter-Strike (this includes Counter-Strike: Source, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and Counter-Strike). According to statistics gathered by Valve's content-delivery platform, Steam, these players collectively contribute to over 6.177 billion minutes of playing time each month, as of February 5, 2007, solidifying its position as the most popular online first-person shooter of all time.

[QUOTE="peacebringer"][QUOTE="pattyfattycake"]no! a sport includes a phisical activity exerted by ones self or with a team to acheive a goal... i fail to see the physical activity in playing video games.peacebringer

it very Pyhsical practicing for a Competition being up hr's and you hands are the physical part, and Poker is a sport and that doesn't reuire any Physicalness, so your wrong, Sport isn't only Physcial it's mental too, but sports really is about Competitiveness over anything.

maybe your hands but in a sport you must be physical... actually exert energy... your hands do not count... most gamers are fat...

Most of the top CS/UT2k4/Quake players are skinny, actually. I only know a couple of overweight top cs players, and the top 10 wouldn't have any overweight players at all.

There's like 2 professional fat cs players

(which is actually mind boggling as thousands of people sit on there ass playing cs and are somehow not fat)

Poor Warden.

Just cause you sit don and play games doesn't make you fat lol not everyone eats alot i for one play games more than most and i'm skinny as **** cause playing videogames doesn't make me hungry infact i can skip meals while playign WOW lolz.

lol yea people have died from not eating when playing wows, it's been proven more addictive than ciggarretes, therefore i don't start

One guy in Asia dies and all of the sudden it's "people have died."

That last part is so ridiculous I'm going to assume you were just kidding.

ok lets settle this now. Sports are careers where people practice their whole life to become good at and make their living or fortune playing. They are physical, demanding careers that require years of practice and determination. Like pool, ping-pong, darts, bowling, GOLF, and video games are ONLY activities that you can make money in.

The defintion for sport: an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition, the occupation of athletes who compete for pay

An activity(including gaming): diversion: an activity that diverts or amuses or stimulates.

I do know that everytime someone brings up MLG their pompous and annoying attitude makes me want to explode.

AYComputer
I HATE THAT too!!!!!! No I dont consider it a sport at all. Football, Basketball, Golf etc are a ****load harder than videogames and I dont care what you say. I also hate how MLG is so pompous about their "sport". They act like it is superior to all else and that only the "glorious few" can be good at it and that if your not in MLG you suck at videogames. Thats BS. GTFO here.

Golf is a sport dumb***. You have to be fit and flexible to excel in it. Look at Tiger. Also about 90% of the golfing population is whoeful at the sport. So dont tel me golf isnt a sport. It requires you to be in shape to really be good.

Its as much of a sport as poker, spelling bees, and pool are. That is to say that it isn't one yet ESPN will show it anyway.

NO, sport is a physical activity that involves physical endurance as well as wit. It's a physicalchallenge that is worthy of a trophy. If video games were athletic, tangible and not bound bylinear trial and error rulesthey could be considered a sport. Video games are a simulation, not a sport.

I was intofootball.I Played several positions over the years.Defensive End, Tight End,Tailback andWide Reciever.because I'm big and fast so I was ideal for all of those positions. Also a good punter, but who wants to be on special teams? I can punt but who wants to be the designated punter? It was just something I was good at, not something I wanted to be designated to. Never played footbal past school. I should have. Played collegeball, but I never wnet to college. Many of those college ball players are lamers. Manyof the school students were lame as well. Pro football iswere the REAL fotball is. They don't have anypoor players.

I also like Baseball, Basketball & hockey. But I'm not a watcher. I'm aplayer. I don't play any of those games anymore, because I grew out of them. No one around here to play with and most people my age are too busy to play. Also heavyweights are common. So it's difficult to find people that can take the abuse of football and hockey. Either that or they can't run nor skate or they are too fat move.

Mentally challenging, sure. But physically challenging just makes me laugh. When was the last time you ever found yourself out of breath from a video game (aside from DDR and its ilk)?

Halo 3 had over 1 million players on last night so I think that's the most popular shooter now. and that's 1 game not a span of 3 games.

I'm pretty sure chess is classified as a sport...
