[QUOTE="lightleggy"][QUOTE="DJ_Lae"]Luxury. Use your hand, wash it off after. You save paper, meaning fewer trees are cut down, less energy is used to process it, and/or recycled material can go to some other more useful purpose than collecting excrement off your posterior.

yeah and meaning your hand will smell like ****

I bet if you washed it good enough the smell would go away. :P

There are a lot of hands belonging to people in this thread that I don't ever want to shake.

I keep hearing the "Just shower after" suggestion. I work 8-4:30 everyday, we do not have a shower at my office. What do you suggest I do? Wipe with my hand, attempt to walk out of my stall in front of people with my pants around my ankles and not touch anything on the way to the sink, wash my hand off, return to stall and rinse/repeat until clean? Is it necessary to survive? No. Is it necessary to function in modern society? Yes.

It's a necessary luxury. We won't die without it but really, can you fathom life without toilet paper?

It's a luxury. Not only does water do a better job, it's better for the environment. And your hand won't smell if you wash your hands well enough. That being said, I use toilet paper almost everytime. :P

Luxury is when your toilet paper has pictures of pink butterflies and it smells like a parfum.

It is definitely not a necessity, it's a luxury of our time. Saying it's a necessity in our world is just admitting that it is a luxury in our world. I always use toilet paper but I realize it's a luxury, just like the house over our heads. Sure you could say when you compare it to the rich it isn't, but you could compare it to the poor and it is. It works both ways.

Toilet paper is stealing jobs from people who need them! There are thousands out there on the streets that would gladly take the price of toilet paper as wages to wipe your behind with their hands.

Luxury. It's not necessary to survival, and there are alternatives.GettingTired
Like.... your hands.... or.... a towel, or..... some plant leaves you would store in your bathroom just for such use which you would gather every autumn each year, or some utility gloves (coloured brown!) or- ... WOW so many rational alternatives!

I think its a necessity. To call sth a necessity does not require it being 100% needed, and without which we wouldnt be able live at all, but sth which has become an inseparable part of everyday life for most people on earth.
