No.  Everything I put my mind to, no matter how hard I try, I fail at.  I don't know if this is due to ADD or something else, but I suspect it's due to a lack of intelligence.  I simply am unable to focus for any extended period of time.  I failed Algebra three times in a row.  In a row.  How incredibly stupid do you have to be to do that?

I suspect myself to be on the lower spectrum of average intelligence, if that.  I once scored a 125 on an IQ test....I don't know how that ranks though, and even if it's semi-decent, I can't seem to apply it no matter how I try.  And in my view, being able to apply intelligence is what defines it.  So I'm S.O.L.

MirkoS77
Take it from me. Just because your not book smart does not mean your not smart. I'm sure you can do and learn other things that people can't. Today's society places intelligence with school. When in actuality there are too many forms of intelligence to gauge how smart a person really is.

1. Some days I feel smart, and other days I feel dumb as shit. I don't like answering questions like this because a lot of it has to do with what I study and the people I'm around, so I don't think I'm in a proper position to gauge myself. But all I really care about is being smart enough to accomplish my goals in life, and so far I think I'm doing just fine.

2. Yes. I enjoy what I'm studying and I've been reading ahead over the summer to prepare for my courses for the next semester. I'm especially excited because my professors are supposed to be some of the best in the department.

In the town I grew up in, I would definitely say I was in the top 20% in terms of intelligence.

But seeing as I have sinced move to the Pacific NW, I am maybe a little above average intelligence for this area.

On Gamespot? I have no idea. Sometimes I think that I may perceive myself to be less intelligent than everyone else because the intelligent people on this forum are just that damn smart. But yeah, as someone else has said, I think I am smart enough.

Smart enough for my chosen career. And yes, I do look forwards to more learning and growing. I don't do as much leisure reading as I should, but I have to keep up to date on teaching methods and some of the current news of my scientific discipline.

I think I'll just refer to a quote from Plato:

"Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something."Allicrombie

Umm, does not speaking about your opinion about your own intelligence (as OP asked us to) and posting a quote from Plato instead make you a "wise man" (assuming that you felt like you did not have something to say about it) or a "fool" (since you've avoided OP's question, yet you've said at least something as if you had a need to do so)?

Anyway enough of my ranting. Do you consider yourself smart and intelligent?r-teest

I am not even sure what's the difference between the two. Anyway, my reply for both would be kinda meh. I manage to get by, but it's nothing to brag about. Could be worse though and for what it's worth, I consider myself quite curious.

Do you actually look forward to studying and learning?

Stduying? Not so much anymore. I am O.K. with it but I am far from looking forward to it. Learning? Depending on the form, I could say... yes. Some forms of learning (e.g. practical experience) are still very entertaining and fulfilling for me.

Yes, thanks to a bunch of great teachers and professors and whole lot of reading for pleasure when I was a child. But there's nothing like your first year working when you get out of college to make you realize how little you really know, and how many people out there who are smarter than you there really are.

Very true, and that's something I've heard quite a bit. For example,  when people say college is only for gauging someone's learning ability,  rather than actually "knowing it all"  out of college. You learn at the job more so than school.

Average. There are some things I grasp quickly while there are other (seemingly simple) things I will never understand. So I think it balances out.

I find myself not incapable of learning and I consider myself to be educated beyond my intelligence. However, I am not quick to call myself smart. I prefer to think of myself as one who is learning, not as one who is already knowing.

Everyone says I am genius because I always get good grades at school ( high 80s or low 90s) and I do get awards every year, but just because your school smart doesn't mean you're just as good in other areas, such as social relationships. Everyone has their strenghs and weaknesses

I am able to get good grades with appreciable, but not excessive, effort and if you add luck, I am sometimes able to get a distinction. Younger, a lot of people would think I am smart solely because I got good grades. Over time, I started to believe that myself. I was wrong. I now realize that being smart encompasses so much more than mental prowess at solving maths. Or being creative. Or having knowledge. To be sure, it consists of being proficient in those areas but it also means being perceptive to all things (people, their emotions, objects, their purpose and design, your thoughts and their effect on your actions, ethics, your goals etc). Everything you can think of. It means being adaptive. It means doing the right every time. I am none of those things. :p

I don't particularly like either of those terms. I like to think of myself as someone that enjoys looking at things in a manner that is different, in a way perhaps that may seem to fit the "smart" or "intelligent" words used here, but which is not in any way dependent upon said perception. Every day I'm surrounded by people that now different things, new things, more things, etc and I enjoy learning what I can from all of them, it is a humbling experience. I think Einstein would probably refuse to label himself as "smart/intelligent", he did something extraordinary by looking at the universe with a different set of eyes, the knowledge wasn't particularly important , it's the way in which we use it to see things that truly makes a difference, I think that's what we should idolize him for, instead of his equations and papers. Perhaps the best way to represent this abstract point is by showing you this quote by Richard Feynman, a quote that summarizes the way in which I live my life day to day, and which I feel sums up the meaning of beauty quite nicely : "I have a friend who's an artist and has sometimes taken a view which I don't agree with very well. He'll hold up a flower and say "look how beautiful it is," and I'll agree. Then he says "I as an artist can see how beautiful this is but you as a scientist take this all apart and it becomes a dull thing," and I think that he's kind of nutty. First of all, the beauty that he sees is available to other people and to me too, I believe. Although I may not be quite as refined aesthetically as he is ... I can appreciate the beauty of a flower. At the same time, I see much more about the flower than he sees. I could imagine the cells in there, the complicated actions inside, which also have a beauty. I mean it's not just beauty at this dimension, at one centimeter; there's also beauty at smaller dimensions, the inner structure, also the processes. The fact that the colors in the flower evolved in order to attract insects to pollinate it is interesting; it means that insects can see the color. It adds a question: does this aesthetic sense also exist in the lower forms? Why is it aesthetic? All kinds of interesting questions which the science knowledge only adds to the excitement, the mystery and the awe of a flower. It only adds. I don't understand how it subtracts. -Richard P. Feynman. Btw sorry for the formatting .

I kind of know about it. cleverness makes us lazy. I see it both a bless and a curse. My memory is pretty much nonexistant, Im a step away from alzheimer, rofl, not true but its really bad, so most things I learn to do them when I do them. So, if some time passes when I last did any said activity that I learnt, I have to relearn the next time I do it sometimes on the move since I dont recall in reality how that was actuallly done.
