I have never been a big drug guy, caffeine has never really impacted my life(maybe financially), and I am good when it comes to beer(better then I used to). But liquor is the one that I have given up. It got to a point where I had to do some self reflection and I realized although ive never been a big liquor drinker, if I ever did something stupid while drunk liquor was involved.

This little gap year I have taken between undergrad and grad school has really given me time to look at the habits I need to cut out before I start grad school in Denver this september. So I have cut out liquor and honestly I wont miss it.

I drink once every maybe 2 months, i have never been a big drinker. Being drunk was for me was never the greatest unless i was just drinking with my misses. I usually have a "smoke" while my friends drank though. Which i havnt touched in years though, but i do miss it sometimes.

@Mercenary848: I drink wine with unleavened bread for communion, but that is it. A little sip is all I ever needed for having expressed my faith countered alcoholism in my family.

I've only drank a handful of times in my life, never understood the appeal. I never drink. I've seen plenty of friends and family members health and relationships completely ruined by alcohol, some to the point of death. I credit my Dad getting sober decades ago with changing the course of our entire family for generations, certainly my life and that of my children. I'm glad many people today have realized the dangers of cigarettes. I hope society soon wakes up to the dangers and problems caused by alcohol.

I am shooting for 30(july 25th-september). I respect your strength, resolve, and results brother. I was so anti alcohol until I got to college, but then I fell in love with it. Im learning to unlove it.

Was a vodka guy, never drank beer. Apparently I get too awesome for people around me when I drank. Gave up all alcohol about six years ago.

I rarely touch spirits anymore. Maybe a gin and tonic or 2 in the summer.

Cider is my go to beverage, nothing quite hits the spot like a Strongbow or Thatchers Gold!

Used to, somewhat, many years ago now. Quit after my doctor told me my body can't handle alcohol properly, and if I drink any more, my liver would explode and I would go into runaway diabetes. Or something.

Haven't had a drop since.

Alcohol, if not taken in moderation, will ruin you. You've had 2 pints and feel top of the world, it turned out all I ever wanted in life was as much alcohol as possible in the shortest amount of time!

You wake up with a mouth like a toilet, a niggling memory that is refusing to burden you with it yet but your waiting in horror for it to emerge and you feel as if you are about to die of lukemia or something (not good).

If you can make it to the toilet to be sick that might contain some of the potential mess but if you concentrate hard you might not spew.

Then 2-3 days for recovery and repeat. An alcoholic just skips over the recovery process.

I agree with you in a lot of ways(which is why I wont give up craft beer for now), but I feel it depends on where and how you live. My town has such a drinking culture(college town/big concert scene/bars on every corner) that "moderation" is a suggestion for most then it is something you can actually do. Im leaving Athens, but really want to leave m unhealthy drinking habit here, if that makes sense.

You can, it's what I did.

I was more or less an alcoholic in habit during my college years, like so many college students.

Then I graduated, and stayed in my college town where I kept the same habits. Only I was working at a brewery haha and making very little, so I drank my wages. Looking back on those years, I had a lot of fun, but was not happy. I do not like how much I drank then, what it turned me into when I was drunk.

I still drink now, just in moderation.

Trust me when I say, that leaving and starting fresh helps a lot.

@mrbojangles25: Thanks man, I actually needed to hear that. I’m not going to lie, your story is exactly like mine. I started working downtown in Athens Ga, and then my drinking doubles because there isn’t much to do in college towns but drink and study(and I wasn’t in school). It’s really only been a problem the last two months, but I also think if I didn’t drink as much this year how much money I could have saved lol! But your right, moving to Colorado this September will be a great way to level it off. Especially since I’ll be doing what I’m passionate about, and not just having fun.

Also since you are the beer guy, you a Creature Comforts fan?

And good for you to cut out Alcohol, no one needs that in their lives anyway and just remember you can have fun without it.

I drink liquor but never to get drunk and never because I had a bad day and just don't want to cope. I drink it on occasion when there's company over or we go out to eat, but also never by itself. I always drink and eat.

I gave up beer (except in the hot ass summer, bring an ice cold tall boi into an ice cold shower it will cool your core temp) and predominantly drink whiskey. A fine Canadian whiskey is clinically proven to get you where you need to go ;)

Not a big fan of alcohol in general. I might get drunk once or twice a year. But not wasted. I'm more of a weed guy. Not a fan of being around drunk people too.

Nothing wrong with drinking in moderation. Actually moderate alcohol intake has some health benefits. When did OT become a temperance club?

I haven't gone on a beer binge since I turned 21 long ago. I probably had 20+ beers (plus a few hard drinks) and took a pee in the middle of a busy street at Christmas Eve.

I toss back a few beers every couple days after work. Usually 1 to 3. Weekends I take the wife out at least 1 day. If we leave the area we'll have beers with lunch and go tripping around antique stores and book stores and such. Usual downtown type thing. Go out to dinner and its 2 to 4 beers for me. Play poker at my buddies and I put down anywhere from 4 to 10. I'm a happy social drinker.

@LJS9502_basic: lol yeah. Honestly I really have to rack my brain to create threads on this board, so I kind of go from personal experiences. Ot kind of died when I was on a break, so at first I thought it was just less posters(a lot of people on reddit these days, no one wants to debate everyone just wants to talk to people like them). But then it hit SW is still booming, so maybe ot just never had the same staying power.

Once Omni-Slash(remember that guy lol) left this place was on steady decline.

@stuff238: sleeping in the wrong corner of your room after painting can shorten your life.

My aunt never smoked or drank and she passed in her mid 40s.

There literally no escape. Its your genes that ultimately decided what affects you

Some ppl can eat pizza everyday and still reach 100 years old. If you search you tube now there's a 100 plus year old who frequently smokes and drinks

@LJS9502_basic: that’s one thing about pg I like. It’s not so much cliques, as is people with similar beliefs defending their views against the same people with opposing views. The conservatives are pretty uniform, but the liberals will rip each other apart hahaha.....very telling of society today!
