I drive an automatic, though I recently learned to drive manual. It's definitely more fun, cheaper, and cost-effective. When I buy another car one day, I'll definitely look into manual. Though I don't understand how some people act like it's the absolute only way to drive.dreDREb13
I know what you mean about people bashing automatics and acting like manuals are the only way to go. I would want an automatic in a basic family sedan or a pickup truck. For me, manuals are by far the better option in sporty cars. I can see why they make an automatic version of the Corvette, Nissan Z, and other sports cars.. but I really think that those should be reserved for people with disabilities that keep them from driving a stick. People are really missing out on a big part of the experience by driving an automatic sports car.
Auto. Never had a chance to learn stick. I would have loved to, though.JustPlainLucasThis is the ultimate in stick, a pic of the shift pattern for an 18-speed RoadRanger transmission.:P
Wow at all the automatic drivers! I had no idea most Americans drive automatic. I drive manual like the vast majority of Europeans. Its defintely the best way to drive a car, automatic is for amateurs. No offence but any car enthusiast will know that manual is the way to go.
Most of us don't have a choice. Only 5% of new cars sold in the US are manual. Granted, that's just the industry responding to customer preference, but if someone really wants to drive manual here, they may not get the chance. I lucked out because I bought a sports car... the last haven for manuals here in the US (though with the influx of twin-clutch gearboxes, that won't last long).Wow at all the automatic drivers! I'm so sick of this mindset that autos are for amateurs or people that don't know how to drive, etc. Most people in the US drive autos because they aren't driving a ferarri, commuting with a manual is not fun (at all) and autos are so good now in today's cars, there is very little difference in performance unless you're a professional driver.Wow at all the automatic drivers! I thought the same thing... but after driving a manual for a few months, I finally drove my other car (an automatic), and it honestly felt like I was on some automated theme park tour ride, just there for the sights.[QUOTE="Asim90"]

Most don't see that as a good thing though. I'm a huge auto nut, but when I get into my truck, I just want to put it in drive and go.[QUOTE="Asim90"]

But those aren't true manuals. I don't really mind twin-clutch transmissions, since mechanically they're manual (just automated). But the shiftable automatics (the ones that have torque converters) are just stupid.[QUOTE="Dark__Link"][QUOTE="Asim90"]
