we dont take money off of a high priced item if you buy the service plan or geek squad services cause that defeats the pricing. cables are a different story i mean if someones buying two or three accessories ill mark each of the accessories down 10 percent or something but never the core product cause people can get fired. best buys official policy is "we are not a flea market. take our prices or leave them" anyone doing different can be fired if they get caughtI rarely get the opportunity to haggle, and I'm awful at it...
I always open w/ the price I want to pay. Then they haggle me up, and I end up walking away.
Most people don't know this but you can haggle at Best Buy on high end items. You can basically get something at cost if you look like you're buying cables, and service plans and such cause that's where most the profit is. Use those as your bargaining chips to bring down the price then return them later.

I wouldn't buy high-priced TVs and laptops because of how fast technology advances. I could probably buy a $1000 laptop that would cost $200 less next year, so I like buying them as cheap as I can get for a good laptop. Warranties also help if the store lets you exchange for an equally priced laptop.Do you haggle when you are purchasing high-priced items?
I most certainly do! I always shop around and haggle the lowest price between about 2 or 3 retailers. I hate it when family members just go out and buy whatever, not knowing how much they are getting ripped off.
My brother spent, about 3 years ago, $2000 on a computer that had lower specs than my computer that I brought 2 years prior for $1500.
I love to haggle. For example, when I brought my laptop 18 months ago I went between Bing Lee (where I brought it) and the Good Guys. I wanted a laptop and dad wanted a HD TV, so we knew what we wanted and bundled it together to get the best price. This was our eventual shopping list:

- Samsung Series 6 116cm (42') HD LCD TV. Was $2,250 but we got it to $2,000
- Asus M51Va laptop, Intel Core 2 duo 2.53Ghz, 4GB RAM, 512MB graphics. Was $1,900 but we got it for $1,700
- 8-way powerboard. Was $80, got it for free
- 1 year of Norton Home Security. Was $80, got it for free
- Mouse and carry case. Was $50, got it for free
I haggle out in the outside Saudi markets sure..
but i've never haggled while in the US..
i've done it while i've been in Egypt and Mexico...
BY THE WAY for travelers from the US.. in places like Egypt, they'll ask you first where you are from... say Canada or some other English speaking land... NOT the USA! they use the technique to judge their initial price for you... American's - in Egypt at least - are well known for spending generously..
then why not just mark them cheaper?instead of marking them up at 3 grand and haggling them to 1500 why not just mark them at 1500...haggling is stupid cause if they are giving you a cheaper price they could have marked it cheaper in the first place. and i HIGHLY doubt the businesses want you to haggle cause if they did they wouldnt make any money at all. taking a loss is still a loss whether you sell 1 item or 20 items.FUBAR24
Businesses here put the ticket price higher then necessary so people can haggle and "get a good deal", which increases the chance of a sale. Also manyretailers have "lowest price guarantees" which mean if you find a cheaper price they will beat it. Bunnings (hardware) has a "if you find a cheaper price we'll beat it by 10%" guarantee. Harvey Norman and JB Hi Fi have a "best price guarantee". Bing Lee advertises that "everything's negotiable".
[QUOTE="HybridPhoenix"]I don't know about you people, but where I live, the price is pretty much the price... Where I work we literally cannot do anything about the price, especially on the expensive things (game consoles) because the store doesn't make any money off they as it is, we'd rather not lose money while we're at it.MafireeI agree with this. I work retail and all our game consoles are priced basically at cost.
I can't remember if I said this already in this thread, but when I got my Xbox 360 Elite last year I reckon I got a good discount. Harvey Norman had a deal going where for $575 you could get the console, Lego Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda and Need for Speed Undercover. For $650 I got that deal plus an extra controller ($50) and Mass Effect ($75).

XB360 elite w/ lego indiana jones and kung fu panda (~$299)
XB360 controller ($50)
Now include Mass Effect and Need for Speed (which are less than $20 each now), I'll be nice and say they were $50 each.
That would be $449 for the bundle at retail store that doesn't let you "haggle". You got a bad deal in reality........

Mass Effect - last year? - for $75 bucks? dude you totally got ripped off... that first ME game has been at like around 10 dollars for like a long time...XB360 elite w/ lego indiana jones and kung fu panda (~$299)

I'm Australian, can't compare prices as simple as that. Our prices include taxation, plus consoles are always more expensive here.
Look here. Xbox 360 Elite 120GB HDD, whilst it was $299US it was $549AU. Mass Effect and Need for Speed were $75AU and $50AU, respectively, at that time. EB Games now has Mass Effect for $25AU, which is over a year after I brought this. Keep in mind this was Feb 2009

Again, in from Australia. It's still $25AU from EB Games. $75 for Mass Effect was a bargainat the time (Feb 2009), many places were still selling it between $90 and $100. Heck, it's still being sold of $90
I do
I went on holiday to Spain and saw this...thing...that I wanted to buy. The guy said 30 Euros. I said goodbye. A couple minutes later I got it for 11 Euros. He was trying to rip me off but screw that.
Here it is impossible to haggle... Except for buying 2nd hand stuff and maybe cars. The price that is listed for what you want to is the price you will have to pay for it if you want it. However there are some exceptions if you are buying large quantities of something. But never more than 5% off. horgen123yeah when it comes to cars ill haggle like no tomorrow. from dealers you just gotta know which cars are competing with the other makes and models and which are selling better. my dad got 2 grand off and a sun roof installed onto his Honda Ridgeline cause he told the dealer if they didnt do anything for him hed go talk with toyota about getting a tacoma and they wanted his sale. but retail chains dont do anything here unless its an open box or clearanceitem
