I know a few users here hate on going to college, and that is not my intention. I see the value in an education, im just asking to see if you personally are happy with your investment.

Looking back at it, I regret going to university right away. I am happy to be graduating now that I have a better idea of what I want to do. But my first two years of school were a waste, and just set me back.

I regret going immediately right out of high school. I didn't know what I wanted to do so I wasted time and money, and a got a useless degree. Teachers and parents were scaring us into going. I think that if you don't know what to do then don't go right away. Work for a bit and plan it out.

@SOedipus: Yes we are in the same boat, but I do not regret my major at all. I just regret thinking I could get by only making good grades, and hen just partying it up.

What did you study at first, if you dont mind me asking?

I don't regret being in college right now at all. I do, however, occasionally question whether economics was the right degree for me. It's probably one of those "fine, but certainly not my passion" things. At least I don't genuinely dislike it.

@SOedipus: I love geography, but I know the job market is not that good for that field of study. My major is in the same boat though until I go to grad school.

I never regret it, some of my best memories in life. If I could have stayed in college forever I would have done so.

If I was to do it over again I'd be a college professor.

Not in the slightest. I'd change a few things about it, but I am very happy with college and where it's led me.

No loco, I....oh, sorry, thought you were somebody else =P

What I regret was letting my mother decide what I should graduate in, in exchange of her help paying for it.

I would have regretted not finishing my degree. Despite it's uselessness, the experience taught me a whole lot about life, responsibility and things I really had no grasp on before going to university.

That said, since I finished my degree, there is always potential to go back and get more.

No regrets. Maybe wouldve studied more instead of sports year one. But I make a very good living due to my education. Investment paid off many times over.

Also im 34 and my college buddies are still my best friends dispite living in different areas of the country.

@korvus: lol im familiar with him and he is extreme. But honestly I can see why uni can push someone to that point, even a lot of university faculty I talk too thinks it needs reform.

I don´t regret going to college, what I regret is not realizing sooner that what I was studying ( Economics ) wasn´t my call and wasted 2 years time.

I wish I took college later and focused on other things. Back then I was a complete **** up but now, my grades are in good standing and I know what I want to do. Unfortunately there's so much else I want to do but I feel there's little to no time left for it.

My advice, if you weren't a good student in high school, don't go to college immediately. Instead volunteer, travel abroad, work full time, or take a class or two at a community college that peaks your interest.

And if you feel you're ready, go to college or community college. Or not.

I regret the learning experience. Having to go through gen ed courses and re-learn things I've been taught from middle and high school....what a fucking joke. You can't test out of most things so you're basically fucked into spending unnecessary time and money on crap you don't need.

Then, 75% of the instructors couldn't speak English to save their lives. Thick accents to the point you can't understand them....I'd change classes only to encounter another instructor (can't call them professors, they can't teach shit) that still can't speak English.

I don't regret going at all. It helps that I knew what I wanted to do, so I could dig right into my major. I learned a lot during my time at the university and met some great people.

My case would be different. I managed to go one day but I ended up having an anxiety attack while on campus, and ended up leaving. I realized the big atmosphere wasn't for me. If it were a smaller college I could probably have handled it.

@itheaddy: Dang hopefully you can find a smaller uni. I actually transferred from a small school to a big school and the initial shock caused me to drop a class(it had 200 people). I never had anxiety that bad before, so I can kind of relate.

I do not regret going to college. In fact, it has been one of the best experiences for me thus far. I have always loved learning, but I have not always had the opportunity to engage in learning the same as my fellow students. College is opening many doors for me and expanding my worldview.

Some say that general education is a waste of time, but it is not. I really like that humanities was a part of my computer science general education because it has lead me to ask myself what I would like to accomplish in history and I have an improved perspective regarding the world because I know the history of cultures. Next, I make an effort to think for myself, but critically studying philosophy has established that I know, for myself, how to think about issues. That said, there is plenty to learn.

Math is an excellent application of the logic utilized in philosophy. Philosophy provides an education in higher thought and mathematics is a refinement of said higher thinking. People might think that reading John Stuart Mill's views on utility are unrelated to the epsilon-delta limit definition, but mathematics has origins in philosophy.

College in America is not perfect as it costs more here than anywhere else, but the quality of education can be great as long as the student chooses the right professors.

Don't regret going it helped me secure an okay paying job with amazing benefits but I do regret the major and going only to community college. Wish I went into something like computer science instead of the near worthless paperweight I have now

At times I wonder if I picked the right major, but otherwise. I think I did the right thing.

I learned software engineering, but after studying AI, I grew very fascinated in neuroscience.

Never been, and I don't regret not having to deal with student loan repayments, but I also understand that I was fortunate in my aptitude and interests were in a field where one could excel without a degree necessarily being required (at the time). The only friends of mine who consistently make more than I do are doctors, but many of them are still repaying massive student loan debt and will be for a very long time. While discussing school, one friend of mine lamented remembering having graduated from the “26th grade”.

No, I do not regret going to college. I enjoyed college a hell of a lot more than school.

@Tangmashi:I don't know about the others but for me, none. I did BSc. Computer Science and paid around Rs. 75,000 (ie, 1174 dollars). If I had gone to a government college, it'd have been even cheaper (around 150 dollars). The only reason I went to a private college was because it was only 3 minutes away from my home. I've applied in the same college for my Masters.
