I have failed so bad in life and I have no one to blame but myself. If I told my 14 year old self that this is where I'd be in 10 years time I probably would have sunk into an even deeper depression than I was already in. I wish I could start my life over again, I really do. But alas this is where I am, and I'm afraid this is where I'll always stay

Nope. In fact, the exact opposite. I constantly surprise myself. Me keeping away from relationships, marriage and kids seem to be why... I just focus on family, my goals, my health, ect.. The things that really matter to me. I went through a huge phase where I really dug deep into my mind ( can't talk too much about this or I get suspended ), and really figured who I was as a person.. and got comfortable with all my subjective flaws.. and it was some of the best moments of my life that still resonates now.

Yes.  I've had many great things happen in the past 10 years, things that I wouldn't change for anything.  But there are a lot of aspects of my life that I absolutely hate and wish I had improved myself earlier on.  You can always change and do better, but sometimes it just feels so difficult when you feel like you've failed and lack that ambition.

Yes and no. Yes because I have a lot of things that I need to develop better (people skills for one) and no because I understand that change doesn't happen overnight. Working in retail has taught me a lot of useful skills, and is helping me overcome a lot of the basic problems I've struggled with for a long time.

nah. used to at once, maybe. but now i realize you can only live a happy life if you don't hold yourself to others' standards. just enjoy life for what it is--even if you're constantly down you can still find those silver linings.

[QUOTE="FelipeInside"][QUOTE="TehFuneral"]

At the age of 10 I expected to grow up very handsome and drive a stylish car and have all the girls try to flirt with me.

Well, neither of those happened and I grew up to be an average/below average looking person driving an average car.

Also, I didn't get accepted into the university I wanted to go either and ended up going to a college near home.. which caused me depression.

Well, nevertheless, im working on my medicine degree now and hopefully i'll get to have what I wanted in the future.. hopefully.

TehFuneral

All those things are materialistic, they don't bring true happiness.

So be it, ever since I can remember all what I wanted to do is make money. I think it's part of my id.

EVERYONE wants to make money, and lots of it.

I'm just saying it only helps with happiness, it doesn't bring it.

The most happy people I have ever met are those that don't know if they will have enough money to eat till the end of the week.

my 20 's are not turning out like i expected at all. im almost 25 and expected to be finished college and married by now with a baby. i had it all planned out.

i have achieved none of those. i haven't gone to college, don't see myself getting married anytime soon. i work at a dead end job. still live with my parents because i can't afford to move out on my own.

so i'm pretty much a failure.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. My life is in pretty bad shape right now, like really bad. Sometimes I don't feel like a failure because I feel that I can justifiably blame so many factors and circumstances that are out of my hands, given how I live in a hellhole. However, it does not bring me peace because I'm either lying to myself or I'm not and I justifiably can blame those factors and circumstances. if the latter case is true, it still does not bring me peace because I feel disempowered. I feel like "So there isn't anything wrong with me, I did not do anything wrong. I have it within me and I'm capable and I worked for it, I just happened to live in a hellhole that's all". That is pretty patronizing.

No. I'm very glad I can afford all the luxuries I have that many take for granted and wasn't born in a 3rd world nation, in times of war or years ago before they even had indoor plumbing. I could have been more successful considering my opportunities growing up but every choice I have made is my own and they were conscious choices. So I can hardly feel bad about my circumstances. I'm very greatful for what I have and happy with life.

I think its pretty sad that there are so many people who live in first world countries who feel like failures. You have no idea what I can do with my life if I get the chance to live in such a country one day.

Depression unfortunately knows no economic boundaries or social status. You would be surprised how many people have so much and still aren't happy with what they have or have achieved. Also I had no idea you were from Gaza and thought you just supported the Palestinian cause. I hope you didn't take what I wrote to be offensive or discouraging. In retrospect my post may have subconsciously been influenced by seeing your username or maybe not but I can see what it might look like and my only intention in saying what I said was to help the people in the thread who are depressed feel less depressed. Though anyone who has the time to be posting on these forums and leisure to engage in gaming should feel grateful regardless of where they live.

No that is pretty stupid to say forgive me for saying that. Its not like people of say, the Middle East, are living in Somalia. Better yet, many of those who view themselves as failures in this topic are doing so because they haven't finished college, work in a dead-end entry level jobs and have shitty social lives. What is higher about that?

There is way more to life than posting in a gaming forum and gaming. Even the latter I don't do anymore since I sold my gaming PC anyway. Regardless no need to apologize mate, did not take it this way :) Though again I'm talking about people in this topic who I'm sure there are more of them in the real world who haven't finished college, work in a dead-end entry level jobs and have shitty social lives.

That's a relief. If there is one thing that would make me depressed it would be making someone feel bad. I shouldn't have tried to take on this serious subject as its not my forte. I will give it one last try because I never have learned when to stop digging a hole deeper. The crux of what I was trying to say from the beginning is that in this day and age people have way more to be glad of than be depressed about and depression is completely counter productive anyway.

I have a decent job and background, and there is career potential in what I do, but I don't imagine doing it for the rest of my life, so I believe I'll only feel accomplished when I get into a field that I love.

I just fell down the stairs and got a good reminder indoor plumbing and all the other niceties of the modern age doesn't mean we no longer feel pain. Ouch. Feeling too happy about things is just asking for trouble to happen. It might even by more dangerous than depression.
