Do you feel that you are not indigenous to any country? In other words, do you feel as if you don't have a homeland?

I'm European American, so I'm obviously not indigenous to North America. However, my family and ancestors have been on this continent long enough that I feel that I'm not indigenous to Europe.

I'm of French and Scandinavian descent, yet I don't feel indigenous or native to France or Scandinavia. I'm an American citizen born in America. I speak English as my first and sole language. I'm fully assimilated into American culture because I was born here. So, am I even indigenous to any place on Earth? The only place I know for sure that I'm indigenous to is the planet Earth itself. :P

Are European Americans indigenous to Europe? Are African Americans indigenous to Africa? What about Asian Americans whose ancestors have been here for over a century?

Who cares? I'll start my own damn country.

But really, I'm an American. And I feel like an American.

I just had to make that clear.

Indigenous is usually applied at a specis level therfore you would be indigenous to Africa. The word indigenous is never used relating to an individual organism.

My homeland would be Scotland because there are 2 castle ruins belonging to Clan Lamont their and one intact castle built by Clan Duncan. I would consider scotland my homeland and it is a place I wish to visit. I am even descended from 2 Irish Kings, an Irish Prince, and a Scottish King. Although I must also say Lebanon is my homeland as well, but more specifically the area around Mount Lebanon where the Maronite's resided. The Maronites were Christains/Eastern Catholics in Lebanon back in the day, and now there is a Maronite Church and a current Maronite Patriarch.

I also have Cherokee in me, but I don't really feel like the US is my homeland, maybe if I went to the specific area where the Cherokee resided. Although the Cherokee I do have is probably less than a percent.

Okay, I think he means what we call First Nations in Canada, And are usually refered to as Native Americans in the US. The peoples who were in North America before the Europeans. I don't know if you're just trying to be difficult, or actually don't know what he's talking about..

Yeah, but by terms of ethnicity, where exactly am I indigenous to? Even though I'm of European descent, I've lived in America my whole life and my family has been here a while, so I don't feel that I'm indigenous to Europe like Native Americans are indigenous to North America.

When you think about it, we are all indigenous to somewhere else. Even native americans. I'm pretty sure they crossed the land bridge from Asia to get to North America. Nobody has been permanently settled since the beginning of time. All groups have moved.

Take me for example... I'm "cajun". Cajun is actually just a word to describe a particular group of French people. These people used to live in France, and to escape religious persecution, they moved to Nova Scotia, Canada. Then from there, they moved to New Orleans/South Louisiana. I grew up in that culture, and that is what I feel connected to.

I mean, I feel more closely related to France than I do somewhere like Japan. Because our family still has some French influences. But I'm an American. For example, when the Olympics are on, I am cheering for the USA.

YOU as an individual are indiginous to the USA.

If ethinicity is the measure by which you choose to judge yourself, then yes, Europe is your answer, regardless of what you "feel".

It's still their technical term that both they use and the US government recognizes. Look at any job application. It's "american indian". Indian doesn't just mean from India. There are "indians" in all corners of the globe.

Sort of. I'm originally from the Czech Republic but I spent most of my life in North America. I myself feel Czech but because of my lack of general understanding and not being in that country for at least 50% of my life I see the differences between me and the locals. On top of that the language is difficult and though I am perfectly fluent in it and can write almost perfect as well people still hear my American accent. i myself don't catch this but others can hear it right away and that sort of makes me feel like I'm not really one of them. Plus I apparently mistake proper and improper use of of words when speaking so my friends get a some amusement from that. Well, I call the US my home and plan to live my life here but I'm not sure I would consider myself a patriotic American. Perhaps when I become a citizen (which I can do in a few years) I'll feel different. For now it's sort of an odd balance of what country I would consider my own.

They can both be your own. I was born and grew up in New Orleans, and now I live in Houston. I like my friends in Houston and the city in it's own way, and I like my friends in New Orleans and that city in it's own special way. I like both and I go back and forth all the time. Every single job app in the US. You don't have to answer but it is asked in all of them.

Yes and I do feel comfortable in both countries. I think for me I just don't feel a connection that's strong enough to one or the other. This however I think will change with time. Like if I spend another 10 years in the States I think I will feel that I'm American.

I have always lived in america but I don't care that much about it, if I moved somewhere else it wouldn't be a big deal.

To tell the truth, I've always felt I would be more at home in a Western or Northern European country than in the US.

Yeah, that Native American heritage I have is less than 1% of my lineage. Just because I don't have paper white skin, blond hair, and blue eyes, doesn't mean I can't be Caucasian. :P By the way, I have some Finnish heritage, too. :)
