Do you feel that you are not indigenous to any country? I kinda do.

Yup. I'm French of Lebanese origin and my first language is English. Don't feel French, Lebanese, or American/English/anything else. I pretty much feel like I'm human, and I think that's what's most important (and what most people forget).

No. I was born in the U.S., I grew up with this culture and obviously that helped make who I am today, so I am very much an American.

Same here, except I'm a bit more complicated. I look 100% Japanese (parents are Brazilian who are Japanese descendants), but I'm Brazilian. Lived in Japan for 2 months as a baby, moved to Brazil and lived there for 9 years. Now I'm in the USA and it's been about 7 years (3 years in Michigan, 4 in Florida). And I'm only 16 :P

I sort of like having these relations with all these cultures.

I was born in South Africa, lived in England for 3 years, and moved to the US when I was 14.

I'm not really sure.

This is really more of a wider question about Identity which is a whole big can of philosophical worms that I don't want to get into but if you're talking purely about genetic heritage then yes nobody of european descent is "native" to any of the americas but due to the mass genocide that took place by first european colonial powers and then by their various successor states(the U.S.A included) means that the "native" populations are now so small and intermingled with "non-native" bloodlines that the americas would be practically devoid of human life if all those who were of "non-native" descent were removed which clearly is nonsense. With myself the situation is rather quite different with my being Norwegian but having significant English heritage but given that the English side of my family has long lived in the North then I'm more than likely to be of largely Nordic descent especially considering the isolated nature of norwegian demographics up until the last few decades. Ultimately though in general sense being "indigenous" to a particular region or culture has a lot more these days to do with how tightly wrapped up in the accepted identity of region or culture one feels rather than genetic heritage.

You aren't European american if you aren't from Europe

Does that apply to African Americans, Asian Americans, and Hispanic Americans, too?

Yes...it does.

I am going to have to second that.

I was born and still live in the USA, and I feel like I belong here, I guess. I also feel pretty connected some other countries (particularly Norway and Ireland) because of their strong influence in the customs and traditions in my life, as I have a lot of relatives not far-removed from me who emigrated to the USA. In the end, though, my nationality is American, and I feel that it fits. Who knows where I'll live in five, ten, fifteen, or twenty years, but for now I live in the USA and I feel like I belong.

You aren't European american if you aren't from Europe but no I don't agree with you. I feel like I'm 100% indigenous to the US.

Pirate700

Only Native Americans are indigenous to North America, though. Are you Native American?

Yeah I am a native american. I was born here. No offense dude, but you need to get the terms straightened out and not go by the incorrect PC terminology.

lol, you need to get your terms straight. "In biogeography, a species is defined as native to a given region or ecosystem if its presence in that region is the result of only natural processes, with no human intervention. Every natural organism (as opposed to a domesticated organism) has its own natural range of distribution in which it is regarded as native. Outside this native range, a species may be introduced by human activity; it is then referred to as an introduced species within the regions where it was anthropogenically introduced." It's not "I'm born in America, therefore I own this place rawr go Yankees!"

I'm a Korean-American and I'm a US citizen. So in American I will be seen as a foreigner but in the country of my birth (South Korea) I will be seen as an outsider because I grew up in the US and speak perfect English but not perfect Korean.

I'm Hispanic and live right off the border, but I still feel/am very American. So no, it's not that confusing to me.
