Spongebob was a great show from 1999 to 2004. The newer episodes are so bad, its ridiculous. Alot of the voices are different now (Spongbob's voice is the most noticable), and the writing is just flat out bad. The new episodes are not funny at all.

to give you some examples...

in an episode ren and stimpy have sex...I forgot what kind of sex...but you could see their shadows and it would show exactly what they were doing with no censoring.

in another episode, the red dude was giving birth (even though its a man) to a TURF and you can see how the turf literally goes out of the guy's anus and then they put some yellowstones to put him eyes...

btw it was passed in nicklodeon

Really, what happened to standards in today's society were Sponge Bob and family guy are king.

Its just that many current cartoon shows have stuff in them only an adult could "appreciate". Sometimes even crude humor.

I was sitting watching it with my nephew: he was laughing when a hero fell down, when someone hit someone else in a funny way and I was laughing at some of the dialogue (which was admittedly stupid but still hilarious).

Spongebob Squarepants is perhaps the only cartoon show that I prefer to watch dubbed in Greek.

I find the new ones weird mainly because Spongebob acts completely different. The show seems more childish and Spongebob just started to act more flamboyant.

Now theirs nothing wrong with that imo, but since Spongebob did not act that way in the earlier episodes, it just gets on my nerve that he is a completely different SPONGE now.

I've only noticed that Mr. Krabs is named Gene, he's amiser and sometimeswears a Kippah. But oddly he celebrates the twelve holy days of Christmas. I took that as... he like's the thrift monger side of the jewish stereotype but doesn't care for Hanukkah.Other than that I haven't noticed anything disturbing. I've probably seen every episode.

I would not say disturbing, more like... interesting.

I must accept the older episodes have more charm and are funny in a simple way, but the newer episodes are far more interesting. What you have been experiencing with the recent changes in the cartoon is an attempt to 'keep up' with what people want. Honestly, just tune in Adult Swim at night, it's horribly disgusting... but that's what people like to watch, so that's what we get. Personally, I like SpongeBob because it stands at the line between past gen cartoons and the new ones. Think back, Angry Beavers had some pretty weird moments, so did CatDog, even the first Rugrats cartoons had disturbing moments (picking examples from Nick). Anyways, I just watched the episode in which Squidward gets 'handsome' and I think it was genius, the whole artwork, dialogue, etc., just spot-on.
