I have had three close down in our city. Thankfully another one opened with the same owner as my favorite arcade. I wanted to see how many people have a local or arcade or fun center. Maybe if you have the time leave the name of the place. The arcade near me is arcade UFO austin, tx. I think arcades are important to gaming culture.

Same, I live down the street from there. Other than having a beer there and watching a Seahawks game, I've never played an arcade game there.

I used to work at an arcade until it closed down (greatest job of all time ever).

I've kinda been looking for employment ever since... Aside from losing my source of income, it felt like I was losing a part of myself. I had been coming there since I was in FIRST grade, I met my friends there, I regularly met with my friends there all those years later.

Arcades are fading out, and I really want to do something to stop it, but its looking bleak.

What is everyones current favorite arcade game?

Maximum Tune 3, Time Crisis 4, and House of the Dead 4 for me. I love arcade racers and rail shooters, which are of course played best in the arcade.

This might have been obvious from my Elizabeth Conway icon.

I hope that you all get arcade near you soon. There was a period here were there was no arcade accept at dave and busters, and austin park and pizza. I have realized that arcade culture is ultra important for the gaming world. Also that it was important to me. I have always played games but here recently I have had much more of a appreciation for games. There are not many places left with decent arcades. I hope that mayors or city planners keep arcades around they have their own culture as well as a great atmosphere and often breath life into any area they are.

Nope. Sadly those days have passed for the most part. Movie theatres are about the only places that have arcades it seems.

Unfortunately about the closest thing most places have to arcades currently are the deaded "Family Entertainment Center". Places that usually involve multiple other gimmicks (go karts, miniature golf, lazer tag, etc.) with overpriced food and "ticket" games. If you are lucky you might find a decent selection of ACTUAL video games.

What irks me though, is that this is what people currently consider an "arcade".

It is fun but WAAAAY too crouded. It's almostm impossible to get on any of the the decnt arcades as there are long lines. The alcohal is the only part that makes it somewhat worth hanging around.

Isn't that why we created game consoles/PC games? So we don't have arcades? Or are they just for nostalgia?

Yeah D&B is hardly a proper arcade. A handful of interesting games to play but not many.

No, but I have one in my basement. We have a pinball machine, a Ms. Pac Man and Galaga cIassic stand up arcade games, and then we have a 50 in one stand up arcade game with games such as Donkey Kong and Galaxian. Not to mention the two sit down racing games we have. 8)

Yes we have one at one of the malls around where I live. Also at almost every movie theature there is a little arcade, at one of the bigger theatures the arcade part is actually twice the size of the arcade thats at the mall.
