I'm currently watching an episode of True Life entitled I'm Homeless.Watching this episode makes me feel so sorry for the people whom it documents as well as for homeless people in general. It reminds me of the homeless people whom I use to see when I'd travel to school everyday in New York City via the subway. I remember a few occasions where I've given food and money. This may sound cliche, but if I were a billionaire, I'd use my money to create some sort of organization to help the homeless. Have you ever helped the homeless? Do you have any compassion for them?

Yes, because I think that most of them are mentally ill, rather than lazy. I mean, most people are lazy to a certain extent, but being so lazy that a person sacrifices any attempt at a comfortable life is hard for me to comprehend.

Yes and no.t3hrubikscube

This.

I volunteer at the Catholic homeless shelter every couple of months and help out with my Dad at our local Knights of Columbus, but that's about it. I also donate tons of old clothes to the Salvation Army, and give whatever pocket change I can during the holidays. I'm not even religious, but it feels good.

I don't give handouts to beggars, however.

For some, yes. Some end up in a very crappy set of circumstances that place them on the street. Those I feel compassion for. Then there are those who are the cause of their own homelessness. Reasons for their own problems may vary from laziness to poor life decisions. But whatever the case, I do not feel sorry for them.

That is seriously one of the dumbest things I've ever read on these forums.

My heart really goes out to homeless people, for whatever reason they're there.

I remember on an outing to the city once, a friend of mine and myself encountered a homeless man who had passed out cold, with a whiskey bottle in hand.
There wasn't much we could do after the ambulance was called, but we propped him up, so he wouldn't suffocate if he threw up.

It always makes me sad when I see homeless people my age, too. I wish there was more the community could do for them, break the cycle.

I should mention that when I said that the animation was fluid, I was thinking about the series retrospectively. Compared to the other shows I watched back then, the animation was much more fluid. However, compared to other animes I've seen since then, it doesn't hold up. I'd have to say that the most fluid animation I've seen in any anime was in the Cowboy Bebop movie. That was truly fluid.

I'm indifferent when I see a homeless person as I don't know the circumstances as to why they're there.

I feel kinda sorry for them, but I don't really show compassion to them.

Only if they are old or have some sort of disability

A friend who lives in Spain told me that a guy that went to his college used to get out of his BMW and ask for money in the street

I have compassion for everyone. However, some people have to help themselves more than others can help them... and handing money to homeless drunkards isn't helping them. There are different kinds of compassion... and pity compassion is almost never constructive in the long run; it never takes into account what the effects of an action could be.

Well, unless they tell me a justifiable reason for why they are homeless, I just think: "Get a job."

Or better yet, get a job at a hotel, cause then even if they don't make enough to pay rent, they can just stay in one of the hotel rooms.

Am I heartless?
