I was in another thread asking about bullying and realized that I acutally know someone who is in the federal prison system. He was a kid around my block that I got into a fight with. He used to come around my house with his freinds and we would play sports quite often.

He got a little crazy in high school from what I heard (we went to different schools). Then a few years ago he lead police on a high spead chase and in the process killed a girl that was in the back seat.

When I saw his mug shot in the news paper with the story thats when it really hit me that I wasn't a kid anymore. I don't really know why. I think its b/c I always thoughtof prison as profound or something and now someone that I knew in my generation was going.

I know more ppl that have been to jail for extended periods than I know ppl that haven't.
I honeslty can't think of anyone I know in real life who hasn't at least been to the county.

Darn it, I only know people who've been to fake jail. >:
Two friends of mine have both been in jail for drug related charges and another for assault. I am aware of many more people who have been to jail/prison, but I don't really "know" them.
Had a neighboor when I was little that had been in jail for about 20 years because he had gotten so angry to see his girlfriend back then and some other guy getting busy in their bed, that he had gone out, took the largest tool he had in the garage..a chainsaw, and killed them both with it. Something he had told my dad he regret and was the dumbest thing he had ever done both to himself and the families of the two he had killed.

He was actually a rather nice guy, helped his neighboors and arranged a couple of large BBQ parties with the entire neighboorhood invited.

Last I heard he had gotten married with a single mom with two kids and moved.

Some guy that was in my class in high school is involved in drugs a lot apparently...I used to see stuff in the local paper about him when I lived where I used to. Not really sure how much time he actually was in jail though. Besides that just my cousin because he's a stupid drunk and got an OWI.

I don't think I PERSONALLY know anybody, because I generally don't associate with people who do things that could get them into jail. But every second pregnant teenager or young mom around here has a babydaddy that's either on parole or in and out of jail, it's kinda sad.

I remember a guy who used to live next door to me in the same apartment complex. He seemed okay. Then one day, he was gone. I learned later that he stole 50+ bags of tools from an AF civil engineering warehouse and sold them into a black market guy who in reality was an OSI agent.

My old neighbor was a drug dealer, thief, arsonist and enjoyed torturing animals (i.e. setting horses on fire) and he was sent away for about a year. All this and he was only about 16 at the time. :S

One of my uncles has spent time in jail, though I don't think it would be considered an extended amount of time. Probably a couple months total.

I believe it is slightly changed now so you can be more than 21 years in prison, however you can't get more than 21 years at each time, subject is being re-evaluated after a certain amount of years, if still considered dangerous, the sentence is extended. But I am not exactly sure about this.

Anyway an old classmate of me, is or was on the run because he beat up someone really badly.

Yes, a few: the a****** who tried to rob and attack me; a couple of my friends were in and out of juvi - I haven't seen them for about a decade now, but my guess is that at least on of them is in jail; one of my grade 9 classmate killed a person; lastly, my cousin resisted arrest and broke the cop's rib.

A relative of mine. She was a cop in LA and accused of murder 24 years ago, but just got arrested 1 year ago. The trial is in the Spring. She visited me with her husband and daughter a couple months before she got arrested. I don't think she did it though. :(

My brother has been in juvie a couple times, but I think he's cleaned up his act and hasn't actually been sent to jail. Then again, I haven't seen him in over a year, so I'm not really sure what he's up to.

Other than that, I don't think I actually know anyone that's been to jail.

How much did he have? Depending on the size they could have attached "with intent to sell" on the possession charge and that could get you more time than manslaughter in some areas. Usually if it's less than an ounce and you wasn't trying to sell it you'll only get a fine without jail time.

That would be over half the people I grew up with. It's a vicious cycle, you've got a felony on your record and you can't get a real job so you've got no choice but to go back to crime.

i think it counts as heat of the moment or something like that (whatever the opposite of premeditated is), and thus its not murder, btut manslaughter.

I've known several people like that. It's a fact of life from where I come from. The worst part is that a lot of them considered going to jail a "badge of honor" instead of something you should be ashamed of and should learn from. In one of my old neighborhoods they had more respect for you if you just got out of jail than if you just graduated college or was serving in the military. Where I work at almost half of the kids in my area have some type of criminal record and out of the ones that have a record about a third of them can't even join the military because of how serious their records are (felony and/or drugs). They could go to college if they get the money but even with their degrees they'll catch hell trying to get a job. A lot of people don't think of the consequences of their actions when they go out and break the law.

Every murder also constitutes as manslaughter. With the broad description he provided- it's seems to be murder. Manslaughter- conciousness to the possibilty of death. Murder-conciousness to the possibility of death+intent to cause it (which is a form of conciousness). Insanity defenses or "automated behaviour"- either exempts you completely, or don't apply.

I know one guy really well. He's in his thirties, I met him at my work. I'm just going to say I'm really REALLY happy he doesn't dislike me. We get along pretty well which is funny because I'm like a goody two shoes. :P I also knew someone who went to elementary school with me. He was a real prick he liked picking on everyone. I found out this year he was murdered in a bus shack. Also at my high school, five kids were arrested for murdering someone. I barely knew them though. They scared the **** out of me.

Only a year...even though he's only 16 that is pretty sick and deserving of a longer sentence.

My uncle spent some time in jail for drug possession and burglary. But he wasn't a citizen so he ended up being deported back to Belize. He hasn't been back since. He calls collect every so often.
