For example, bands that transition from harsh to clean, from singing to rapping, or just two completely different singers.

Do you enjoy it?

And if so, post the bands that you enjoy the most that do it.

For me:

blink 182

A Day to Remember

The Devil Wears Prada

Rise Against

and countless core bands (why I like cores so much)

I don't mind a band having more than one vocalist. On the other hand Daren Malakian can shut the hell up from now on and let Serj Tankien do the main singing.

In the extreme metal genres it isn't necessary, but some bands like Nile do it. Ensiferum alternate between screams and group singing and it works well for them. To answer the question, I like it but it's not necessary in the genres that I like.

Sometimes. For some bands (especially, in my opinion, Draconian) it works very well, but for many others I really dislike it...

I like it a lot when bands do that. Two lead vocalists, vocalist(s) and backup singers, one vocalist going from clean to screaming/growling, etc. It's all awesome. :)

I really like how Pink Floyd used Waters' and Gilmoure's two completely different voices to really set the tone of each song.

As long as all of the vocalists in a band are good, I have no problem with there being more than one. One of my favourite bands is Gentle Giant, and they have had up to 3 lead vocalists in the band at a given time.

Nightwish do it with success imo. Dead To The World is probably my favourite song by them and its split up between Marco & Tarja.

Or they used to... I can't get into Anette Olsen for the life of me, and the fact that Tuomas' composing took a severe dive in Dark Passion Play doesn't really help.

That sucks to hear. I only own two albums anyways so i was never a big fan but from what i heard they did it really well.

Alice in Chains did that (Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley) and while at first I found it weird, after a while I found it nice as both had quite different vocal styles.

A band that I know that does that well is In Fear and Faith (I just happen to be listening to them at the moment).

They have a singer for clean vocals and a singer for screams.

I think JonnyEagle was referring to Akerfeldt alternating between growling and clean vocals.

Yes. Besides my obvious choice, I'll list a group that does it really well:

I don't think Set Your Goals does it very well - then again, one of the vocalists just kind of annoys me.

Yeah. I like it when there's a female and male singer too.

I Am Ghost (before Kerith Telestai left) sounded good imo.

They were good. Like MCR but more hardcore. I liked them a lot. Very strange lyrics though. Any band that can alternate from female to male vocals successfully is AWESOME.

Tegan and Sara.

Back in Your Head

Call it Off(lyrics are awesome)

The Con(this song demonstrates vocalists switching off really well)

Not sure what you would consider them. Indie-ish pop? I'm not sure.

Vital Remains switches vocalists well. Glen Benton's deep growls and Dave Suzuki's high-pitched growls (screams?) are awesome. Scar Symmetry also uses alternation really well; Roberth Karlsson growls are awesome and Lars Palmqvist's clean vocals are good.

Hell, Nile sometimes has other people doing vocal work too. (usually just chants and crap like that, but still).

My favorites (every blink song is a favorite lol) are as follows (in order from to greatest to least)

Easy Target

Stockholm Syndrome

I'm Lost Without You

Here's Your Letter

Always

All of This

Asthenia

Violence

The Fallen Interlude

Down

I Miss You

Obvious

GO

I think the 2nd half is WAY better than the first.

It depends on the album. Sometimes a single, bellowing voice is far more powerful than a thousand in unison. It just really depends on the atmosphere or vibe created by the song.

Ha, my love for blink was assured when I first listened to Easy Target. At the beginning I SWORE I recognized the riff, and I soon as I recognized that it flowed right into All of This, I literally peed myself a little bit! :P
