I do. I like these songs the most:

"Across The Universe"
"A Day In The Life"
"Don't Let Me Down"
"Come Together"
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
"Strawberry Fields Forever"
"Eight Days A Week"
"Hello Goodbye"
"Helter Skelter"
"Yer Blues"

If you like them, please post what songs you like by them...

They're alright when going for a ride, but I think they're no that great.

In my opinion, The Kinks were better than the beatles.

I like their stuff from Rubber Soul onwards, I don't really like their poppier stuff. I guess my favorite song would be "I am the walrus". John Lennon was a vastly superior songwriter than Paul.

blackslim3000

I found the Kinks, like many bands during that time period, were good songwriters, but remained fairly tedious throughout their whole careers. I just don't find any significance in their songs. If I hear them on the radio I don't stop there and listen, whereas if The Beatles were on, I would stop and listen.

But I guess it just comes down to preference.

They got a bit of an edge further in their career...so they went from pop to pop rock.  Not much of a stretch.

Nope....there is good pop out now.....not the mainstream pop of course.  But other genres have a "pop" subgenre and some of it's quite good.  I like some Brit pop for one.

It is a lot better than American Pop.  Turn on TRL, it's depressing.  Except the Linkin Park.

Some of "The Cure" falls under pop... Like some of their later stuff. Not like Bloodflowers later, but even some songs from Kiss Me, Kiss Me (Just Like Heaven...) were pop.

REM's Pop Song 89 is also a pop song from a rock band (the best pop song on Earth).

If you wish....it would still be alternative pop and not the mainstream swill sold to uneducated masses that let recording companies program them.

As I said.....I like some pop genres....just not all and there is a difference.;)

Actually, Just Like Heaven is more synthpop if you think about it... Well, keyboard pop. The keyboard and vocals are the highest thing in the mix.

When The Beatles changed their sound with Rubber Soul (moving away from 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' and 'She Loves You' ) it most definitely was not mainstream for that era... the only reason why it is seen as mainstream swill these days is because so many bands have adopted this sound because it's so perfect.
