The Beatles are the greatest band of all time by a long shot. They are incredibly listenable and anyone who is not offended by melody should love them.

Facts make you laugh? While they aren't the most technically gifted and don't write the most technical songs, they are easily the most influential and important band ever.

Nah, they really aren't.

Most of the music I listen to aren't influenced by them. Although I do admit that Elliott Smith was very influenced by them, they are not the greatest band ever. Farrrrr from it my friend.

I would say that probably all facets of music have been influenced by the Beatles in one way or another. Even the way they  made music more popular and made it music that was more daring than anything that had been so popular makes them influential. But to each his own I guess.

Dude...that is not fact but opinion.  Not every band has been influenced by them either.  To be honest, in 1964 when the so called British Invasion occured they were more or less a boy band.  While they had more talent than the boy bands of today....they were popular cause the girls loved them.

Now that's a fact....

That's wholly irrelevent to their music, however it does mean that they were very influential because they were so popular.

You know, when it comes down to influence, you know how drummers usually hold their drum sticks?

Before Ringo Starr, no drummer held theirs like that.

They had influences themselves in their music....and if girls think you are cute and like the band for that reason then your conclusion does not necessarily follow.  Pop does not mean influential.  In their case, they did influence some bands....not all...and music would have evolved if they didn't exist.;)

Oh, sure music happened long before the Beatles and obviously the Beatles were just kind of ripping off a bunch of different people themselves. But popular rock and roll would not exist even close to what it is without the Bealtes and that much is very clear.

History is not on your side in this.....at the concerts all you heard was girls screaming...yes, I've talked to some older individuals I've worked with that saw them.  Even they admit that's why they were initially popular.

Uh, yeah, effing everything is opinion. The Beatles are not my favorite band. Radiohead is. However, the Beatles are simply the best. The two runners up are the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. Nor are those two my personal favorites really. I mostly listen to modern music, however, I realize that these bands really knew what they were doing and really established the music I love now.

The reasons bands were influenced by The Beatles was because they were insanely popular....bands want fans and money.  So the smart money was on sounding similiar.  Period.  Not everyone in the world was in love with The Beatles...then and now.  It's all opinion.

Dude, I understand this is opinion. Reminding me of that doesn't do anything. And yes, I pretty much agree, however I also think that the Beatles' music was way distinguished from their peers. Their music was better. It didnt' DESTROY everyone else, however I don't think the other people at the time had as good sounding music nor lyrics that were as clever as theirs.

What in the hell else would it be? Of course it's my opinion.

Then why are you stating it as if though it's a fact?

I'm sure The Beatles influenced Rites of Spring and Cold Like December. Uh huh.

Music did not start with the Beatles.

No, but they most likely influenced a band who influenceda band who influenced said bands.

I really doubt that, but if you're going to use that logic, then find who influenced the Beatles, then find who influenced them, and so on and so on.

So in essence, the most important piece of music was the first one ever played.

Of course the Beatles didn't influence those bands, but the Beatles probably influenced the bands that influenced the bands that influenced the bands you mentioned.

You're probably true, that started the cycle of music.

No, music is innate. It's totally human and it's completely natural. What's so cool about the Beatles is that they digged Indian music yet at the same time were clearly influenced by Elvis. It's the range of influences that's important, and they way they applied them, that counts.
